Starving Woman

Her friends joked she was desperate
Now she knows it's true
She is so starved for love

Heart just covered with paper-thin skin
Visible to anyone
Who took a second look

Bones so breakable
Would melt away
At the slightest bit of touch

The feast her mother offered her
Could not feed her starving soul
For it is a lover's crumb
That she coveted most

So she went begging
On the streets
Bared her chest
To the first man she thought
Had love at home

Halfway down the road
She figured
He was starving too

Now it was too late
She had given what little she had
To a man who never planned
On giving anything back

For a short walk
The hope of being full
Had given her enough
