My feet are starting to ache with every leap I take, but I ignore it and continue running besides Glenn through the herd of walkers.
I can feel my lungs burn with the cold Virginia night's air. My gaze focuses on the pasta ahead, dodging walkers left and right.
Each step I take is a step closer to the wobbly guard post. The guard post surrounded by walkers on all sides, ready to collapse at any moment.
"No," Glenn gasps.
My lips part and my nerves start to rise.
'How can we possibly draw them all away and still get to her?'
She's crouched down on her knees, holding onto the base of the tower for support.
Glenn finally wakes from his shock and turns his attention from Maggie to me, but I can't pull my eyes away from her.
'No, Maggie.' The shock of it all finally hit me.
I know it sounds stupid, but because of the adrenaline, I haven't really thought twice about the idea of running into the hoard until now. We're stuck inside the walls, completely surrounded.
'What can we even do?' I look back up at Maggie and see her scream out in determination, while she holds on tightly to the base of the tower.
'I wouldn't be here without her. I have to help her. After everything she's done for me, I have to help her- even if I die trying.'
"Go get her!" I can finally look to Glenn, still horrified.
"Go get her!" He hollers, taking off towards the herd surrounding the post.
I quickly look around, scanning for the best way to get to her.
"Hey! Over here!" I can hear Glenn's hoarse voice being drowned out from his gunshots, groans, and snarls.
Before I can even process what to do or come up with a plan, my feet start to carry my over towards the watch tower.
"Glenn!" Maggie screams worriedly over the groans and racket.
A lot of the walkers were no longer surrounding the base, thanks to Glenn, so I have an opening to climb up. Once I reach where the latter would be, I see that it's on the ground nearby and not connected to tower, leaving me to improvise.
