When the afternoon light broke through the blinds, (Y/N) pried opened her heavy eyes. Her body felt like gravity was hugging her and every aching joint popped up like nodes. The crust around her eyes scratched her eyelids at every blink. Her mind was blank as she stared up into the ceiling above, tracing along every beam like she was drawing it into existence. Why did she feel so...dead? When she broke away from the trance, her head turned to look at the bedside clock. 6:57pm.She straightened her head and attempted to sit up on her elbows, and eventually pushed herself to a sitting position. Rubbing her eyes, face, and everything else was like squishing a rubber duck. Hard and tough.
When the last of the molding was done, she reached out to the call button and pushed it in. Hopefully, someone could explain just how long she was out.
A few seconds later, quick footsteps were heard outside in the hall before they stopped outside the door, and it opened to reveal...
Doctor Pardo?
"Oh shi- I mean shoot! You're awake!"
"...hey doctor, where's..uh Karla?"
A huge sigh was heard from the older aged woman as she waddled her way towards me.
"Man, I'll never beat that nurse. I've been your doctor just as long (Y/N) so why do you not like me!"
"...I do like you, but Karla is better.."
"Why?!"
"...secret. How long have I been out?"
"You've been out for 5 days, we've been working everyday for you, you know?"
Only 5? That's way better than I thought. I was scared for a minute
"Isn't working for me your job though"
"Sure is!"
"Then don't complain"
"Excuse me?! I'll have you kn-"
The door behind Pardo opened to reveal Karla in an absolute state of relief, rushing up to (Y/N) almost immediately and grasping her hands.
"(Y/N)! Oh my goodness I was so worried about you! Do you hurt anywhere? Do you need water? F-for your throat I mean, I already administered saline to your blood stream earlier of course!"
(Y/N) leaned over and looked at Pardo from behind Karla and smiled.
'See the difference?' She mouthed.
All Pardo could do is look with a shocked expression and silently take the defeat. She wiped an invisible tear off her face and left the room.
"You have no idea how worried I was after the first day, you must have been incredibly out of it"
"I must have, I feel super empty for some reason an-"
It rushed in all at once, the memories. The pain, the tears, and the loneliness. She remembered. Her head fell slightly and her eyes dimmed. This feeling sucked. This sinking feeling in her chest bore a hole deep in her heart. She felt empty.
"Ah...yeah. How could I have forgotten"
Karla placed a hand on her shoulder.
