Students whispered to one another and pointed out the bandage on Kat's head. Kat had been gone from school for a week and she caused quite a stir. A couple of rumors floated around like how she had a duel with someone in the middle of the forest or how a creature almost ate her alive (which happened to be accurate).

Her eyes wandered around the Great Hall and landed on the Slytherin table. Ayla and Blair were sitting next to a couple of Slytherin girls that Kat wasn't familiar with. They seemed to look happy. Which made Kat heartache. Blair smiled as Ayla was expressively telling a story and the rest of the Slytherin girls laughed along.

Her eyes went from the Slytherin table to where the marauders were sitting. She couldn't help but remember her strange encounter with them at the hospital wing. As she was staring her eyes were connected with Remus's. They stared at each other for a couple of seconds in curiosity. Both of them wondered why the other wouldn't look away.

Loud laughter was heard by the Slytherin girls which finally made Kat look away. Her gaze was now on her two friends. Remus noticed how her eyes softened when her gaze tore away from his. He watched as Kat stared at her friends, she suddenly looked gloomier than before.

Soon Kat's view was blocked by a boy making his way to her. Her eyes caught Remus's as he appeared in front of her.

Kat looked around for the rest of the marauders, it was rare to see him by himself. "What are you doing here?" She asked in curiosity.

"Can I sit here?" He ignored her question.

Kat's eyebrow raised. "Do you need my help or something?" She asked. Remus just shook his head and sat in front of her.

"So where are your friends?" She found it hard to believe that he would rather sit with her than be with his friends.

"I don't know. Around somewhere." He said nonchalantly.

She eyed him in confusion and Remus avoided her stare. "I just wanted to sit here with you." He admitted.

Kat wasn't sure what she felt at that moment. Those were the words that would usually make her heart flutter but she was more focused on the fact that some were willing to be with her other than her other two friends. It made her wonder if maybe she would've made more friends if she wasn't so anti-social.

"Did you finish the book?" He changed the subject.

"Huh?" Kat asked.

"Pride and Prejudice."

"Oh yeah." She nodded. Her gaze soon fell on the pink bandage that he still had on and she smiled to herself a little. "Is your scar feeling better?" She asked.

Remus grinned remembering what the girl had done for him yesterday. "Definitely." He said and Kat returned the grin happily.

"Thanks." She breathed out without even noticing that she was thanking the boy. The word came out so comfortably. She would be lying if she wasn't thankful anyway, Remus always found a way to keep her thoughts elsewhere and that was exactly what she needed.

"For what?" Remus asked.

"Just..." She looked up for a second wondering how to finish her sentence. "For keeping me company." A smile crept up her face.

Blair Avery watched her friend from a distance. She seemed to look happy sitting with Remus Lupin. It was very rare to see Kat so talkative, even with her friends, but there she sat with Lupin. He seemed smiling widely at something she had just said.

"Blair," Ayla called out.

"Yeah?"

"Isn't tomorrow Kat's birthday?" She asked. She had noticed Blair watching her from afar.

"Yeah." Blair shrugged. She wasn't really paying attention to her friend's words.

"Maybe we should make up with her. I know you miss her."

Blair scoffed. "I do not miss her. Plus she looks all happy with her new friend." She fought the urge to roll her eyes.

"But Blair...She's our friend." Ayla said hopelessly.

"She was our friend Ayla." She reminded. "Did you forget she's a half-blood? My parents would kill me if they found out I was friends with her." Blair said before returning her attention to the other Slytherin girls.

Ayla stayed quiet. She missed Kat, but she had to be there for Blair. She was the only one who could be there for her. She didn't know how badly Kat needed someone to be there for her as well.
