On Saturday I got a long lecture from my parents about my grades. I had an A in every other class but for some reason math was dragging me down. I mean I definitely would've brought it up before the semester ended but my teacher decided it was not fast enough. So now I have to show up earlier to school so I can meet my new tutor.
I only showed up ten minutes earlier than I regularly do but still I did not like waking up earlier than I had too. I wondered which teacher it was going to be and what a pain in the ass it would be to see them 3 times a week. Hopefully they were one of those nice teachers that you could actually get along with and aren't so serious all the time.
I finally reach my math class and the sight I see in front of me has me wondering if my luck could get any worse.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me," Cal mutters, looking at me.
Theres no way. He—it—he couldn't be my tutor. Could he? The universe wouldn't do that to me.
"Ms. Oakley, you're here. Please sit down." Mrs. Odegardo is walking towards her desk once she notices I'm here.
I look down at the chair in front of her desk, the one next to call and hesitantly sit down.
"Um where is my tutor?" I ask hoping that my suspicions aren't true.
She's sat down in front of me now. She looks at Cal. "Well he's right next to you. Have you two met before?" She asks, eyebrows raised.
I don't answer, but from the corner of my eye I see Cal nod his head.
"Great! That should make it easier for you two. Now you know the rules right? Meet 3 times a week, go over her homework with her...." Cal nods and she clasps her hands together. "Good, now any questions?"
I breathe in glancing at Cal and then at Ms. Odegardo. "I thought my tutor was supposed to be a teacher? How do you know if he is.......qualified?"
I can feel Cals gaze shift to me. It's a rude question, I know, but I don't care.
"Fawn, I assure you Cal is more than capable. He is taking the highest math class we offer and is passing with an A."
"You're failing math. I don't think it's my capability you should be worrying about," Cal remarks.
My eyes meet with his. Annoyance clouds his expression.
Ms. Odegardo sighs causing us to break our gaze. "Any other questions?" She asks. We're both silent. "Okay then. Have a good rest of your day."
I wish her same and walk out not bothering to spare a glance at Cal.
A couple seconds after I'm out of the classroom I feel him walking beside me.
"We need to discuss what times we're both available." He sounds just as annoyed as I am.
"Unfortunately I'm busy for the rest of year," I reply flatly.
"You can find time."
I shrug. "I doubt it."
We reach my locker. He moves to my left as I do my lock combo.
"Let me rephrase, you will find time." He demands.
I open my locker, scoffing at him. Who does he think he is telling me what to do? "Let me rephrase, no."
"You don't have a choice," he says and he's not wrong. My parents and teacher were making me get a tutor.
I shove the books I don't need in my locker and get the ones I do need out. I shut my locker and face him.
