Monique:

Growing up in Jamaica the struggle was real; having to stop from school on several occasions, having to wear the same uniform and bag every single year but one thing about me is if I didn't tell you there's no way you could know.

My name is Monique and I attend the Irwin high school in Montego Bay Jamaica, I am in grade 11 my last year in this shit.

Ding! my alarm went off turning to see if my mom was next to me, not surprise that she wasn't.

My mom and I shared the same room but knowing Jamaican parents they are going to wake up early and find something around the house to do.

Finally I found the strength to get up and my eyes lodge on my alarm clock

"shit Mi late!" I said,

this means I missed the first time the alarm went off.

I ran to the bathroom to bathe and brush my teeth then back to the room to put my clothes on.

I saw a tuff crackers on the table that I was eating from last night. I grabbed that and headed out.

My mom was in the front of the yard talking to my neighbor

Miss Tracy

"morning mummy and Ms Tracy", 'morning mi dear they both said'

Tek this mummy went in her pocket and gave me $500 "thanks mummy, lata mi late" I said and took off.

Went straight to the bus park but knowing me I'm always late and taxi was hard to get

Saw my bestie Shan walking with my other friends Lee-Andra and Avii

"Yow a unuh own school" I shouted across the road where they were standing,

They then laughed and crossed the road to meet me

'Mo wi aguh out lata enuh yaw come?' Shan said

I don't like leaving the yard so she already knows the reply "mi naav no clothes fi guh noweh",

'uh neva wah guh noweh yet, yaw house rat' Avii said and I kissed my teeth

"Girl uh know school done ina the next week wi need fi guh outside"

Lee- Andra said. I just stood there looking and thinking if I should just go and enjoy myself for a change,

"Arite wi outside lata" I suddenly said.

A taxi man named Ringo stopped right infront of us indicating that we get in to go to school, we all jumped in and he drove off.
