Wool's Orphanage, Autumn, 1934, Y/N

The end of autumn was approaching and the orphanage wanted to take the children out again before winter arrives. It would most likely be the beach and Y/N was excited as she woke up earlier than normal, and this time...instead of waking up by herself today, she woke up in the arms of Tom Riddle.

She looked up at the boy who was sleeping peacefully. The boy had almost lost his usual frown, and through his relaxed brows was a rather saddened face. The sun softy blanketed over Tom's features making his thick eyelashes glow a soft brown, his skin golden and the freckles that sprinkled across his nose were now accented. Slowly, as the girl watched him breathe, her breathing synchronised with his.

The linen curtain flowed gently into the form of the warm wind as it was lit a golden yellow from the sun.

Today was rather warm for the last days of autumn, warming up their usual cold mornings like if the remaining warmth between the two were projected across the orphanage, and her body was intertwined and dissolved into the atmosphere. She held up a hand between herself and the boy, feeling the warmth that swirled between her fingers...but through the peaceful yellow, there somehow was an overlay of blue.

Tom stretched his limbs as he inhaled until he heard cracks, relieving him from the soreness of sleep, and with an exhale, he turned to face Y/N.
"Hello," he muttered as he slowly opened his eyes. The sun shined through his raven hair, lighting it up a warm chocolate.
"You're still here."

He said nothing as he pulled her close towards his chest. "Are you still going to leave?" She whispered.
"What are you talking about?" His eyes closed again as he rest his head onto Y/N's silky hair. "Do you not want to see me first thing in the morning?" His grin slowly widened as he waited for her response, his eyes squinted as he felt her soft breathe warming his neck.
"This is the first time you didn't disappear," she softly spoke as she hugged him tighter...but as she pressed her face into Tom's neck, his scent intrigued her—a hint of salinity in his sweet, milky aroma that is accented with firewood.

How delicious he smelt...

"I have a surprise for you waiting downstairs," he smirked.

Tom and Y/N got ready together today and Tom seemed strangely jolly, perhaps too excited about the surprise. The moment Y/N finished dressing, he grabbed onto her hand and started pulling her towards the stairs. Y/N skipped behind him as she tried to keep up with him but wanted to remain elegant.

Over the wooden balustrades, she saw the heads of children gathered, all facing the stairway. Before she could think more, Tom laid onto the ground, dragging the girl with her. As she squinted in questioning, Tom just shushed her and continued to crawl closer to the balustrade and bit by bit, the faces of the children became more revealed...as they approach the stairs, a familiar smell itched her nose. Her eyebrow immediate drew together as she saw the expressions of the children—scared but curious, horrified mostly. Tom turned back at her with the widest grin as he's curious about her reaction...but in a sense, he was observing for her approval.
"What happened, Tom?"
"This is only the first part of the surprise," his voice sweetly sang, Y/n's never seen Tom smile this much since she got here. Tom grabbed Y/N's hand and dragged her downstairs as he couldn't contain himself anymore. The children seemed to be staring at something on the walls of the stairs, their progression down the stairs brought the children's attention onto them... and at the same time, the turning of the stairs slowly revealed what caused the children's horrors, step by step.

It was Billy's rabbit...hanging from a string...its mix of dried and fresh blood on its white fur signified the acts firstly injured the rabbit, and then bled to death. She quickly turned to Tom, praying that this wasn't the 'gift' he was talking about, wishing that Tom was as horrified as she was...but as she turned her attention back to Tom, he was staring softly at her. She filled his eyes. His brown eyes glistened as his lips smirked.
"For you," he softly mouthed as he squeezed her hand. Her eyes throbbed as the mix of uninterrupted emotions rushed through her mind...she managed to sink into the forms of his smirk, the indefinite depth of his glance and the warmth of his hand over hers.

"It was Tom Riddle! It was Tom who did it!" One of the children yelled as he pointed, and the other children followed suit by screaming and pointing at Tom. Ms. Cole emerged from the crowd to shush to children, but mainly to question Tom.
"Why did you do it?" Ms. Cole didn't even question him, hell, she didn't care, she just want this to be over with before the inspector comes.
"I didn't do it," Tom smirked, as though he enjoyed every moment of lying through his teeth.
"Thomas Marvolo Riddle! How dare you! Get down here this instant!" Her voice threatened and this time she revealed the leather belt she gripped tightly in her hand. Y/N turned to look at Tom and found his smirk were stoned. A glimpse of fear flashed through his eyes. Even though she knew it was Tom who did it, she hated how Ms. Cole was just going to attack Tom for things she couldn't find answers to.
"Do you have any evidence that points fingers towards him?" Y/N slowly stepped in front of Tom, staring coldly at Ms. Cole and her silence suggests her setbacks. Y/N couldn't help but feel her lips slowly drawing up as her lips formed into a weak smile. With Tom's hand in hers, she started to head down the stairs. "To make an educated guess, you have to be educated first, no?" her voice sang as she got to the bottom of the stairs.
"Who ever did better turn their-self in! Otherwise...otherwise!" Ms. Cole bellowing turned into a chocking of her spit...she couldn't put a hand down on the punishment, her guts tells her she's already looking at the kid who'd do these horrors. The words from the little girl shocked her as she didn't believe the words out of the girls mouth.

The children all backed away as the two made their way into the crowds, except for the boy who Y/N's glance landed on. She held her looks as she approached the boy and the boy merely stood in fear.
"Why did you think it was Tom who did it?" Her words flowed but the boy just stared. She smiled at the boy before existing the room.

Before getting far, she turned to look at the rabbit that hung over the stairs and Tom watched her expressions as he followed.
