All those years in the Safe Room, hovering between life and death, in constant agony and completely alone, drove William insane. He was psychotic before, but he'd truly gone over the brink of sanity. When he finally was freed and put in Fazbear's Fright, he didn't have any thoughts of redemption or regret on his mind, he only thought of killing whoever that was in the office. He didn't particularly mean to, but it wasn't as if he was really in control at that time. It took years for him to get a grip on reality again, and he remembered everything. By the time it happened, it was too late, and he knew that he was beyond redemption.
