It had been four o'clock when everyone including the baby boy had all been dressed beautifully. However, despite the hustle and bustle of preparation, the baby boy had already fallen asleep in his mother's arms, too exhausted to take in the joyous atmosphere around him.
It wasn't just my stomach that was telling me something, it was everyone's curious faces.
Everyone was clearly excited to see what was about to happen next and, judging by the anticipation in the air, it was sure to be something special.
To them, I was a magician; I made a baby stop crying in seconds, I got them clothes out of nowhere and gave them the bath of the century.
Actually I was more than a magician to them - I was a miracle worker who filled their lives with delight and wonder.
"Um, parents, can you tell me what your children want to eat?" I made them feel as if their wishes were my commands, granting them any reasonable request simply by asking.
I wanted to make them feel like their desires were important and that I would do anything to make sure their needs were met.
I was disappointed that they only ordered the most simplest food, but I was still determined to make sure their experience was a positive one.
I tried to go above and beyond to provide them with a good experience, even though I knew that the food they ordered was not very complicated or expensive.
With ideas like how they asked for bread, I decided to make a sandwich. I was determined to put together a delicious, unique sandwich that would satisfy their cravings.
"Alright, I will be back in a while," I reassured them as I stood up from playing with the children and the children's sad faces almost made me want to sit back down.
"Don't let them follow me okay, it would make this situation worse than it already is for both of us," I instructed the guard sternly.
He nodded in acknowledgement before letting me out of the room swiftly without any child escaping as well.
With a sense of relief, I quickly looked around and saw no one had followed me. As I turned around the corner, I almost had a heart attack!
There had been Catherine standing with a stern expression on her and her arms crossed. I froze in place, not sure what to do or say. This was going to be a conversation I had been dreading for a while.
"Catherine! What are you doing here?" I gulped, my mind racing as I tried to form an answer. I could feel my palms sweating as I realized there was no turning back from this.
"No, what were you doing inside there? You missed lunch and everyone was looking for you," She informed.
I gulped, knowing I was in deep trouble. I nervously tried to come up with an explanation, but my mind was blank - I was in for it now.
"I'm sorry," I finally stammered, knowing that there was no excuse to miss lunch and our usual time of storytelling.
"Oh, so you're not willing to say anything now?" She muttered, "Well if you're not planning to tell me, then I might as well ask the-" She started and I knew if I let her finish her sentence, I would be in deep trouble.
"I'll tell you what happened," I said, interrupting her before she could ask her question.
She smiled at her success. She was pleased that she had been able to get the information she wanted without having to ask.
