Third Person POV

Nyx had easily caught up to Hitoshi, he jumped on him from behind and pinned him to the ground. "I'll have to punish you if you keep misbehaving Periwinkle. You don't want to be punished, now do you?" Nyx chuckled lightly.

"I'll pass." Hitoshi stated.

"Hm, how boring." Nyx slowly removed his paw from Hitoshi's back, before slamming it back down quickly. "You run again, and you won't have a choice. Am I understood?"

Hitoshi rolled his eyes, "Yeah, now get off me."

Nyx let his claws dig into Hitoshi's back, "Try that again."

"I understand." Nyx dug his claws further into Hitoshi's back, the blood started to seep through his coat. "...Sir."

"Good boy." Nyx removed his paw from Hitoshi and allowed him to stand up.

Hitoshi brushed the dirt off his clothes and shrugged off his coat. He inspected the back of it poking a finger through one of the claw holes. "You destroyed my coat." Hitoshi accused.

"Bullshit, the holes make you look edgy. Come along now." Nyx walked off.

"That's not-" Hitoshi sighed and followed after Nyx. He lifted a hand to his back to assess the damage. "Fucking hell." He swore. He pulled his hand back from his wound, it was covered in his blood.

He ripped off his shirt and tied it around his mid back and chest to stem the bleeding. He momentarily debated just leaving Nyx again, but the cat had demonstrated he wouldn't like it. Hitoshi pulled on his last shred of self preservation and slipped his coat on, running after the cat.

"Where are you taking me?" Hitoshi asked.

"You'll see."

Nyx turned around a few minutes later, "This is where I leave you. We'll see eachother again." He promised.

Nyx melted into the shadows of a large tree.

Hitoshi stood alone in front of the tree. He walked up to it and placed his hand on the bark. "Why did you bring me here?" He asked himself, Nyx wasn't there to answer, so he pondered the answer to the question himself.

"This..." He muttered, "This isn't a regular tree."

He let his power seep through the cracks in the bark into the heart of the tree. He closed his eyes and felt the tree's life force flow through him.The tree's power felt familiar to him, like he'd felt its life force intertwine with his own before.

Hitoshi knew he'd never seen the tree before, so how come...? His mind flashed him images of fire. He felt the flames lick his skin.

He tore his hand away from the tree in shock. The tree's power felt like that of the flames that brought him here.

Hitoshi slowly placed his hand on the tree once more, and felt deeper. He could feel the flames singe his skin, he saw the bright orange in his mind's eye. He pushed past it, he needed to know why.

The roaring of the fire died down and vanished from his mind. A ragged breath escaped him. Another image flashed in his mind, it was unfocused.

Hitoshi took a deep breath and pushed further. The power the tree was emitting closer to its core felt deeply familiar to him.

Hitoshi let his consciousness and power mingle further with the tree's. The image held what looked to be himself. It quickly flashed to different times and places, every image contained himself. He saw himself as a little kid staring at the other kids' play, as a young teen bitching to an alley wall about the unfairness of it all. He saw himself walking down the street the day he was kidnapped by the cult.

He had quickly realized the power embedded into the tree was his own. He'd been here before, another version of himself. He'd planted this tree, nurtured it.

It was exhilarating and terrifying to know a future version of himself brought him here. Hitoshi wouldn't deny that he feels at home here, at this tree, he'd never felt so free.

Coming to a quick decision, he pulled on the strings that connected him to the visions. He moved them to different pieces on the "board" and moved those pieces to different places. He was in control of the cults movements, he would be brought here again.

And eventually, he'd bring the world to its knees... or something along those lines, he was rather lazy.

Hitoshi's lips twisted into a crooked smile, this would be fun indeed.

He could feel the tree's power crawling up his arm, tainting him. He felt the tree root itself to his heart, his lifeline. His face twisted into a pained snarl. He continued to move his "pieces" on the board. He took the first string of words that vaguely sounded like an incantation and projected them into the minds of the cultists. He heard them chant the words, he saw the circle light up in flames, he saw himself turn to ash. It was exhilarating.

It was interesting to feel all their prayers while connected to the tree. They worshiped the Shade, the walker of worlds as their god.

If they thought him a 'walker of worlds' then a 'walker of worlds' he shall become. He would return to this land, to the people he met, but he would also discover new lands. He would make new connections, and he would continue to do so, in every timeline.

Hitoshi slowly pulled his power back from the tree. He felt a sliver of it intertwined in his very being. He could hear the prayers of people from distant lands.

'Being a god could be fun for a while.' Hitoshi thought. He'd been a hero in his home world, he'd been a morally ambiguous hunter in this one. And he would be a god in any other world he went to. He heard the calls of the people, and he would answer them.

Hitoshi took one last glance at the tree and the world he was currently in. This wouldn't be the last time he was here, but he sensed it would be a while before he returned.

With one last wicked grin, he let the prayers of distant civilizations pull him away.

Nyx smiled softly from the shadows, "Farewell Hitoshi, until we meet again."

Sooooo, that's it for this book. I know the ending might've seemed abrupt, but I tried ok? Yes, Hitoshi turned out to be the dark god, I hope that came as a surprise to most of you.

Also, in the event of a sequel (if you want one), which world do you want Hitoshi to visit? (doesn't have to be anime, I only have to have watched / read it to write it :))

SEQUEL IS OUT, under the name 'Answering the Call'

If you're disappointed in the ending, I'm sorry. This has been an incredible journey, and I hope you enjoyed reading this story as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Farewell my wonderful readers!! <3
