Erin

It had been almost five years since I had fallen from the cliff, marking the end of my relationship with Mateo and the beginning of my relationship with Rowan. I had given birth to Gage around four and a half years ago, surprisingly, with no complications.

It made me wonder how things would have been if I had stayed with Mateo.

Would I even be alive right now?

Would I have this beautiful boy?

I rubbed the top of Gage's head as I walked past him. He was looking at a book and munching down on his bacon and eggs. We now lived in a cabin tucked away in the woods close to the caves. Rowan decided to build it when he realized the constant noise echoing off of the walls, noise that a child shouldn't hear. He also wanted to have a place to have to grow our little family. He was always stern with Gage, but I could always see the glint of happiness when our son did something to make him proud. From catching his first rabbit when he hunted with Rowan to learning essential skills. The only thing that separated us from the average wolf was our red eyes.

The day Roe marked me as h was the day my eyes turned a crimson color to match the rest of our group. Tonya had suspected Gage's red eyes came because I had been marked by a rogue, initially giving him the same hue as the rest of us. I smiled at my baby, rubbing my very pregnant stomach. I couldn't wait to give my son another brother or sister. He was so ready to take on the role as well.

Helping his papa Roe build the baby's new room.

"Good morning Er." Rowan's strong arms wrapped around my waist, snaking around my large belly. "How do you feel this morning?"

"Hmm, I'm a bit uncomfortable." I leaned back into his embrace, inhaling his intoxicating musk.

"Do you think today will be the day?" He asked, rubbing the bump.

"Perhaps." I smiled, leaning my head back for him to capture my lips. "Maybe in the next few days."

"Hopefully, this one comes smoothly like our boy Gage." He leaned forward just a bit and ruffled our son's hair.

"I have a feeling he will, as long as Tonya is here to help me again." I nodded my head.

"I'll have her come down here once she's awake. I'm sure she won't mind. Are you done, boy?" He asked Gage.

"Yes, papa." He replied, getting out of his chair. "Do I get to help you today?" Gage asked excitedly, grinning widely at us. It was cute seeing his two front teeth missing. It gave him a little lisp that would go away once all of his teeth were grown in.

"You do. Go get your axe. We're gonna get some wood this morning to make sure we have enough firewood for the next few days." He gently pushed Gage off in the direction of his bedroom.

His small feet padded to his room, and I could hear him rustling around inside, getting his things ready.

"Don't forget to get your warm jacket. It's snowing this morning," I called for him.

"Okay, daddy!" He replied cheerfully.

I turned around to face my mate. "You two, be careful. I know you've been smelling that pack nearby expanding its borders."

"They're still a mile out." Rowan smiled, reaching his hand out to caress my face.

"Still, we don't need any casualties."

"I know, baby." He leaned in to kiss me. Don't forget to call for me through the bond if anything happens, okay?"

"Yes, papa." I cooed in a mocking tone.
