"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." -1 Peter 4:8
Chase Goode was joyous as he snuck out that night and went to the Protection and Enforcement barn. Over the years it had become he and Bree Morrison's place. He wasn't an idiot; he knew that he was at a school for spies. Chase was almost certain that the faculty all knew, but turned a blind eye because they knew neither Chase nor Bree would be able to sleep without knowing that the other was safe.
That particular night the spring air felt a bit warmer. Chase was in a gray tank top with black shorts. That night, he looked normal. As Bree walked in Chase breathed. She was nothing shy of beautiful. Bree wore a pair of lavender shorts and a white night blouse. Her long blonde hair cascaded in every direction. Her teal eyes sparkled, and she beamed back at Chase with the most radiant smile he had ever seen. She truly was the most beautiful girl in the world. She was a vision in white and Chase was shocked by how much he yearned to see her in white on that spring night. Bree flounced over to him and sat in his lap as he embraced her. She turned to face him, and her smile fell.
"Kira sent me a letter," she said, breaking their silence.
"Your crazy sister?" He asked.
"Yes," her eyes welled with tears. "They're getting restless. She said my mother told her that they burned my grandfather's ranch to the ground. That place meant a lot to me. If that wasn't enough, they've been attacking Kira and my parents any chance they get. My family has been bouncing from safe house to safe house. Interpol let my dad go for security reasons and MI6 put my mom under a high protect watch list." Bree was full out crying at that point. Chase's heart ached. He wanted to tell her that everything would be okay, but he couldn't.
"Catherine isn't going to stop. She will never give up. The second that we leave the academy she'll be after us," he admitted.
"Chase, the second we graduate she'll have eyes on the campus. She'll follow us directly from there. She's going to kill me," Bree cried. She was terrified. Chase sighed.
"Bree, we have to leave," he blurted. She nodded. "No, I'm serious. We need to leave the second we finish our finals. We can't stick around for our graduation ceremony."
"It's impossible," Bree sighed as she reached up and grabbed her trademark locket. "We don't have a plan."
"Yes, I do," Chase stated. Bree looked at him with confusion. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He turned her so that she was fully facing him. He stared deep into her eyes as he revealed his plan. "Over Christmas break Papa Ed and I went on a 2-week trip. I knew Catherine would be out for blood the moment we graduate, so he and I devised a plan. We found a remote place in Greece; I remember you saying you wanted to go there. We bought a house. We booby trapped it and set up alarms all around. Papa Ed checks them routinely, so far no one has even gone near the house. We put clothes and food in it and he and I set up a dead letter drop not far away from the house. He's going to keep sending me on missions when we move there so I can make money for us. I'm already accepted to the CIA, under an alias of course. The CIA pays well, Bree. And you'll be safe."
Bree was astonished. She looked at Chase with shock. She had never heard of this plan. Bree had no idea how much Chase had planned ahead. "But graduation," she said.
"You were right. I planned on having us move after graduation, but you have a point. Catherine will have all eyes on the Academy. She'd follow us for sure. If we leave right after our finals, we'll still be graduates. We'll just leave that Friday instead of going to our ceremony the following Saturday. She'll never expect that," Chase countered.
"But Chase, what about our families?" Bree asked.
"It won't be permanent. Just until it's safe. Besides," Chase wrapped his arms around her waist. "We can start our own family."
"I'd like that," Bree said softly. She eased back into Chase's chest. He couldn't contain it anymore. Love had washed over him, and he couldn't fight it. His nerves began to skyrocket.
"I could love you forever, Bree Morrison," Chase said. His voice began to shake with nervousness. He stood them both up and looked deep into her eyes, searching for a lifeline. He took a deep breath and took her hands. It felt like time stopped when he uttered two little words. "Marry me."
"Chase," she whispered. Bree's face switched to shock. She was certainly caught off guard. "You don't mean that. You're just in the moment. I know you're not serious, you don't even have a ring."
"I do," Chase laughed, a sad sound. "I picked it out with Ed over break. I sent it back with him to the CIA to keep in a lockbox because like I said, I didn't plan on doing any of this until after graduation." Chase looked almost pitiful. It was as if he had revealed his last great secret.
"I don't know what to say," Bree breathed. "This is all so much so fast. We're only 18, I don't think this is normal."
"We're teenage spies. Nothing in our life is normal. Say you'll marry me," Chase urged. He was down on his knee now.
"Chase," Bree began. Tears started streaming down her face again. "Of course I'll marry you, I'm just so unprepared. I don't have enough clothes for Greece yet." She laughed.
Chase smiled bigger than he thought was possible. He jumped to his feet and grabbed Bree. He spun her around and when she landed, he embraced her and kissed her. She popped up a leg and he let his hands find her long wavy hair. He hadn't planned on proposing without his ring, but life gave him the perfect moment and he took it.
"Finals are in three weeks. We have so much to do," Bree began. "Where will we ever start?"
"I know," Chase said. He took a deep breath. "We'll start by telling my parents."
Bree cringed. Chase worried how his parents would take their exciting news. Still, on that spring night nothing mattered. It felt like there was no one in the world besides Chase and Bree. Soon, they would be alone. Chase smirked. Soon, she would be his wife.
Author's Note:
EEEEEEEK! TOTALLY GEEKING OUT! I am the biggest Bree and Chase shipper ever. I have loved creating these two characters and watching them grow. My most basic thoughts on Chase is that he wants a family. I hope he has portrayed this to you all since the beginning. I can't wait to see Bree become his family. This is the perfect piece for a day full of love. Happy Valentine's Day, y'all!!!!!
