Before Morning Showers

The sun looks shy this morning,
He tries in vain
To peep out of the scattering clouds.

Summer is hot in the island
The warm breeze bends the palm trees
And whistles.

A troupial sings, perched
Crowned in scarlet
On top the coconuts branch.

Below, in the curved stem
The woodpecker
Bores a heart on the wood.

On the green hill, the farmer sings
And harvest the plantains
And the ripe oranges.

The nearby creek murmurs
Announcing that rain
Hides behind the mountains.

The skies are not always blue
Gray shows its charms
Before morning showers.
