We walked into the building where the ball was being held and we were immediately stunned by the size of the place.
"This place is huge!" I spoke as I looked at the extravagant staircase in awe.
"Do we have to walk down those stairs?!" Rory asked
"Yes. Unless you want to make a memorable entrance and slide down the banister, which I totally encourage," Lorelai said before a small lady walked up to us
"You are?" The lady asked
"Lorelai Gilmore" Rory spoke
"Y/n L/n." I said
"Late." The lady said
"Sorry, my fault. Took me a while to get pretty, not all of us are 16 anymore, you know what I mean?" The lady was unamused with the joke and gave us directions which Lorelai simplified for us "Look for the cloud of hairspray and Final Net," She said before Rory and I headed up the stairs. The lady made us share an unlighted mirror before telling us we only had an hour and a half.
"I can't believe we only have an hour and a half," Rory said
"I know, I'll never be ready on time. God knows when the swelling on my nose will go down." The girl next to us said. "I had to inherit my father's nose," She complained "I'm Libby,"
"I'm Ror-"
"Which lipstick should I wear? I can't decide," Libby held up two lipsticks that looked exactly the same, Rory looked at me with a frown on her face.
"Ah well, that's a tough one," I pretended to know the difference
"I know! This ones a red-red, and this ones an orange-red. The wrong one and I'll end up looking like a hooker. Or worse, a teacher." She groaned
"That's a lot of pressure," Rory laughed nervously,
"Hey, Ro, let me do your makeup," I said,

-------------------

"Midori sour?" Libby asked as she secretively held a flask in her hands.
"No thank you," Rory said, I just shook my head,
"More for me. At my last coming out, I shared with this girl who couldn't handle her booze. Neon green puke all over her white dress." She said as she sat down across from Rory and I.
"Your last coming out?" Rory asked, Libby, nodded
"This is my fifth coming out this year," She said. Rory and I responded with a simple "wow" before Libby spoke again "You know, they say four out of five debs marry their escorts." She said as she fluffed her hair.
"Kind of like the Dentists with Trident," Rory said
"I figured, five coming out balls, five escorts-- one of them has to stick, right?" She said,
"Good logic," I said
"So, is your escort the one?" She asked
"The one what?" Rory asked, I knew what she meant.
"The one you're gonna marry," She explained, Rory hesitated "Is he cute?" Libby asked
"Yes, he is very cute," Rory nodded
"Where do you guys plan on living?" She asked
"Hold on-" Rory spoke, Libby turned to another girl
"Katie, hi!" She got up and left us.
"All fathers, please report to the staging area, all fathers to the staging area please." A lady said over the loudspeaker.

-----------------------

I was now being pestered by a group of older ladies. They meant no harm, but if this went on any longer, I  would. Thankfully I was saved.
"Excuse me, ladies, could I borrow Y/N?" Jess asked, the ladies all oohed and aahed
"Of course, we wouldn't hold back a handsome boy like you." One of them said, he smiled before I held onto his arm and we went to a more empty area.
"Oh my god thank you, I was about to die," I said, he laughed.
"You look beautiful," He smiled as he took my hand in his.
"You don't look so bad yourself," I said to him. He smirked before we gazed into each other's eyes for a good 10 seconds.
"You need to pay up tomorrow," He said
"I don't even know what I'm paying!" I said
"I'll tell you later," He said before pulling me back into the crowd.

---------------------

We were all walking home now, and I hadn't realized it, but Jess and I had our hands entwined and our fingers interlaced as he walked.
"Did you know that you're considered a hot dad?" Rory said to Chris. "Libby said it's too bad that you're my real dad, because if you were my step-dad, then I could steal you away from mom," She explained
"That Libby's got a good life ahead of her," Chris said
"She's got a lot of things ahead of her..." I said,
"I was very proud of all of you, you made it through the whole ceremony with a straight face. Almost all of you," Lorelai said
"I'm sorry but that fan dance was much more than I could handle!" Chris argued, the four of us laughed
"Hey, I need a burger," Lorelai said
"Me too. Dean?" Rory asked
"The only thing I can think about is getting this tux off," Dean said, Lorelai and Chris both gave him a look "At home, of course,"
"Hey, thanks again for going with me," Rory said to Dean,
"Tomorrow, you start paying," He said before kissing her on the cheek and leaving.
"And then there were four,"
"Actually, I have to get back to Boston in the morning, so I'm gonna call it a night too," He said.
"Not even time for some fries?" Rory asked
"I'll wake up later and we'll have some coffee. Deal?" he asked
"Deal," Rory said.
"Hey, you two go ahead and order for us, I'll be there in a sec," Lorelai said, Rory and I nodded before, Jess, Rory, and I started heading to the Diner
"So, do I get to know how I'm paying you yet?" I asked him,
"I'll tell you later, have some patience," He said as he grinned
"Come on, at least a hint?" I asked, he shook his head as we walked into the diner. He then let go of my hand, which I hadn't realized he was previously holding until he was gone up the stairs. "You- Oh you know what, I give up, I'm too tired for this," I said as I sat down in one of the chairs. Rory and I got our food and Lorelai soon arrived
"Hey!"
"What?" Rory and I both asked
"After all you've been through tonight, I come in to see the two of you eating like that?!" She asked as she sat down, Rory and I both lifted up our pinkies "Much better"
"Being a lady is hard," I said
"So, tonight, what's the consensus?" Lorelai asked
"Being a lady is hard," Rory started
"The fan dance was humiliating," I said
"And I'm never doing a curtsy again," Rory spoke "But it was nice having dad around," Rory added, Lorelai nodded "He's got a new girlfriend," Rory said
"Sherrie, poor girls named after a journey song, must be rough," Lorelai said
"He seems happy though,"
"So... Back from the ball, huh?" Luke said as he put a plate with a burger in front of Lorelai.
"I left behind a glass slipper and a business card, in case the prince is really dumb." She said
"Good and desperate thinking," He responded. Jess then came down the stairs wearing a flannel and a backward cap. I struggled to keep my laugh in as I watched him wipe down a counter.
"Hmm. Luke." Lorelai said
"What?" He turned around to see Jess and walked over to him "What do you think you're doing?"
"Working,"
"So you think this is funny, huh?"
"I'm sorry, I thought this was the uniform," He said as he looked down at his flannel,
"Okay, you know what, have your little joke. Doesn't bother me at all, you can just go over there and clean off that table. I'm ignoring you. You do not exist." Luke tried to play it off. Jess wiped off a table before Luke was officially pissed
"Okay, that's it, go upstairs and change." He said
"Whatever you say, Uncle Luke," He said,
"It's "Luke"- just "Luke" "Mr. Luke" In fact, don't address me at all!" He shouted up the stairs. Jess soon came down in a gray sweatshirt and jeans. He pulled over a chair and sat next to me before leaning on the table.
"So, you gonna tell me how I'm paying you?" I asked, He thought for a second.
"Fine, you're spending the whole day with me tomorrow and you have to buy me whatever I want," He said.
"Seriously? Are you serious? You're actually gonna make me do that" I asked, he nodded, "I hate you so much right now," I said
"It'll wear off,"
