Sawyer POV - the following week

"Momma! I'm ready to make dinner for Makena!" I yell as I walk into the house.

"In the kitchen, baby!" She calls.

I set my bag down, unclip
Maverick, and walk into the kitchen, "Alright, wash your hands, baby."

I do as she asks, "First thing. How was your day?"

She kisses my head.

I smile, "Was okay."

She stares at me, "Just okay?"

I bob my head, "I was too intense in PE so I had to take a break. Then a kid in speech was running his stupid mouth; I told him where to go."

"Where to go?" She asks.

I nod, "Yeah, to hell, momma."

Her eyes widen, "Not acceptable."

I shrug, "He deserved it."

She stares at me, "You know why you and Jackson don't get along?"

My eyes widen, "How did you-?"

She interrupts me, "I'm your momma, I know everything. But you don't get along with him because you two are exactly alike."

I scoff, "No we're not, momma. He's a total asshole who enjoys annoying me."

She glares at me, "Stop using cuss words. And you are, you're both athletic and share similar difficulties. That's why you both know how to trigger each other so easily. I met his mom."

I whine, "We're not! And you met his mom?!"

She bobs her head, "Yep. Okay. You have to learn to ignore him and not react, baby. You don't have to be friends, but you do need to be respectful."

I sigh, "Fiiiiine."

"What about PE? I saw Leah's note about that too." She says.

I shrug, "I'm competitive. I can't help it."

She stares at me.

"What?" I ask.

"It's PE baby, it's for fun." She says.

I shake my head, "Not to me."

She rubs my cheek, "Gotta take it down a bit in PE, baby. You could hurt someone else or yourself."

I bob my head, "When can Leah stop sending you messages about my day?"

Her eyes widen, "Not anytime soon. It helps me understand why you might be tired after school or if you need some alone time."

I bob my head, "Okay."

"Alright. Homemade pasta. You ready?"

I smile, "Grandma's recipe?"

"I actually have a surprise." She says.

I give her a confused look.

"Hi my grand baby!"

I turn around, "GRANDMA!"

She laughs and opens her arms, which I run into to get a hug.

"Grandma wanted to do this with you." Momma says.

"Thanks grandma." I say.

She pushes me back, "Anything for you. Ready to make some pasta?"

I nod rapidly, "Yes!"

She chuckles, "Okay. I already did the first step, the dough is on the island. We have to roll it out and cut it."

"Wait! Apron. Or you're going to be all messy." Momma says and hands me an apron.
