Chapter 55

A new day, another day to survive and hope not to drown in everything that life threw at her. Makenna's day had started on a negative and then a positive note. She'd gone to bed the night before thinking of her conversation with Vanessa. She'd woken up with that same conversation in her head, but then her day got slightly better when she realized Hee wasn't in the room.

She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. She didn't want to feel crappy all day, she hated it. The feeling of going through the day without a single care, and achieving your task because it was something you had to do. It was going through the day without actually living it. Like a car on autopilot without a driver. When she opened her eyes, she didn't have to force herself to get up, she got up because she didn't want to force herself to get through the day. She needed something to kickstart her day to move away from the dark clouds hovering.

Makenna didn't bother taking a shower, she simply put on her athleisure, grabbed her bag stuffed with other things and headed out. But first, she needed her vanilla latte.

Killian headed to the table with their drinks.
"Here you go."

"Thanks." Thea smiled as he sat down in the seat next to hers,

They hadn't seen each other the previous day and had decided to meet up at Metro Coffee today.

"So," Thea began, "What did you want to talk about?"

"Right, uh," Killian swallowed not knowing where to begin, "I, uhm,..."

His fingers drummed nervously on the table. Thea glanced down at his hand and back at him before she covered his hand with hers. Killian's gaze lifted to meet hers and he felt a wave of calmness wash over him when she smiled at him in that oh-so-sweet way she did.

"Now," Thea said, "Try again."

Killian took a deep breath in,
"Thea, I...," Pause, "I'm Killian."

Thea raised a brow, and waited for a beat,
"Nice to meet you, Killian, I'm Thea."

"No." Killian closed his eyes and shook his head, "I mean, I am Killian. I'm simply Killian, nothing special about me being Killian."

He stared at her and she stared back at him waiting for the meaning behind what he was trying to say to pop up. Because all she could hear was something along the lines of: I am Groot. I'm simply Groot, nothing special about me being Groot. But she didn't Groot him.

Understand.
She didn't understand him.

"Killian, I'm going to need you to use your words. Not your name."

"I'm not perfect, Thea." He said softly, she almost missed it, "I'm not crazy smart, I don't have the ability to say the perfect things when you need to hear them, I'm not prince charming, I'm not loaded, I'm going to make mistakes, and I don't have my life mapped out hoping everything works out in my favour."

Their eyes were fixed on each other's faces.

Killian shrugged,
"I don't want you to think that I'm the perfect person for you. But then again, there is no such thing as the perfect person for someone." Pause, "There is just going to be someone your dreams and goals align with, someone who has the same principles and maybe even the same beliefs as you."

Thea swallowed.

"I'm hoping I am that person. I'm hoping we can achieve our goals and find new ones together. I want us to learn from each other and grow together, heading in the same direction."

Thea took a shaky breath in and glanced down where Killian had placed his other hand on top of hers. She looked at him,
"For a moment there, I thought you were breaking up with me."

Killian's hold on her hand tightened,
"Only if it's what you want."

"No." Thea shook her head too quickly, "All I heard at the beginning were the qualities of a human being." Pause, "And yes, there are times when I forget that and put you on a pedestal. But that's only because you do and say things like this. It feels like I'm living a dream where everything, including you, is perfect." Pause, "But, Killian, it's because you're not perfect that I love you. You've never claimed to be anything other than an imperfect human being trying to find their way in life just like the next person."

Thea placed her other hand on top of his, so their hands were on top of each other's hands.
"I hope, as well, that I can find my way in life with you next to me."

Killian smiled,
"Do you think we're moving too fast?"

Thea smiled,
"I think our pace is perfect."

Killian's smile grew wide, soon he was grinning. It was contagious that Thea was soon grinning with him. Killian leaned in and placed a kiss on her cheek, very close to her mouth.

"What prompted that?" Thea picked up her drink and took a sip,

Killian did the same and at the same time flipped his other hand which connected with hers, palm to palm. He held on to it and shook his head,
"Just been doing some thinking."

"I see." Another sip, "As long as you remember that I'm also an imperfect human being, then I think we're good."

"You?" Killian frowned, "Imperfect? Never."

"Killian." Thea dragged in a complaint,

Killian smiled,
"Of course. I'll try and remind myself every time."

Thea shook her head just as the sound of someone walking into the café caught her attention,
"Mac."

Killian turned and looked at the door to find his sister walking in. He turned back around to face Thea,
"We should probably not bother her."

Thea looked at Killian,
"What do you mean?" She asked, "Why would you think saying hello to your sister would be a bother?"

"She just has her own things going on."

Thea didn't say anything but rather returned her gaze to Makenna who was ordering something. Thea waited for her to finish ordering before she called her name again, this time louder.
