Chapter 59- Fast Times At Riverdale High

Summer break goes by way to quickly. Things have been getting better. I still cry when I think about dad for to long, or if I visit his grave. Sweet Pea has been active a little weird recently, but I'm hoping it's nothing.
Unfortunately Principal Weatherbee is no longer our head teacher, Mr Honey is. He definitely gives me the creeps. I'm now sat watching the football tryouts, mainly watching Pea, but Reggies dad is making it super hard to concentrate with all of his shouting. Sweet Pea tackles Reggies causing his dad to shout
"Hey. Get over here! Now" I watch as Reggie jogs over to his dad. He pulls him close by his helmet and I get up waiting to deescalate anything, like I would have done when Reg and I were dating "what are you doing? that guy just made you look like a fool. Not only have you let him take your girlfriend away but now he's tackling you to the ground"
"He's fast" Reggie crocks out
"It's unexceptable"
"Marty have we got a problem here?" I ask walking over
"It's Mr Mantal now"
"Of course sorry, but..."
"You are not part of this family so back off" his attention turns from me back to Reg "that was an embarrassing display. Go out there" Marty hits Reg over the head with his hand "come on man, show me something" Reggie turns away and runs back to the field
"I see you haven't changed much, if at all"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Reggie's dad looks at me again with a scowl
"You know full well what that means" I now turn around and see Archie looking at me with a frown. I ignore him and head back to the bleachers where Sweet Pea is
"What was all that about?" he asks taking my hand
"I'll tell you later. I have to go to Vixen tryouts"
"Good luck" he says before peaking my lips
"You too" I reply and kiss him again before leaving to the girls changing room to get dressed.
"Vixens" I turn around to see Veronica holding a guy whos no in our year up against the locker "this pervert was taking pictures of us while we were getting changed"
"Collecting photos for your sad pubescent spank bank are you?" I gag at Cheryl's wording. When he doesn't answer V pushes him again against the locker
"No. No. A reporter from Rumerdale.com reached out and he told me he would pay 500 bucks for a photo of Veronica. V and Cher give each other a look "how am I supposed to say no to that?"
"You just say it. It's that simple" I say crossing my arms "for example, do you want to go at it in the ring against my brother and boyfriend?"
"What no?"
"Ahhh look at that girls he's catching on. Camera" I hold my hand out "come on" I make a grabby motion with my hand. He sighs and hands over his camera and I take out the memory card. I hand it to V who throws it on the ground and stops on it, breaking into tiny little pieces.

Pea and I are sat on my bed doing homework when a knock is at my door. I look up and see Archie stood there
"Hey Arch whats up?"
"Can I ask you about Reggie's dad?" I sigh closing my history book
"Yeah you never told me what happened earlier"
"Ok shoot"
"When G&G was going on, Reggie said his dad had hit him. Then today he was giving him a hard time. Has it always been like this?"
"Yeah. For whatever reason I was the only one to defuse any situation. Marty liked me, so when they would argue and it looked like Reggie's dad was going to get physical, I would stand in between the two of them. He would then walk off leaving me to comfort Reggie"
"But today his dad didn't seem to like you?" Pea says concerned
"No. He's not happy that I broke up with him"
"So it's an ego thing?" Archie asks
"Yeah"
"No wonder Reggie is the way he is if that's his dad" Pea mutters
"Do you think Reggies in danger? or what about his mom?"
"Reggie would take the beatings for his mom, I'd say Reggie isn't in to much danger because he can easily take his father on if he had to, but his mom, well that's another story" my phone bleeps telling me I have a text. It's off Cheryl
"There's going to be a back to school party at Thistlehouse to get back at Mr Honey"
"Oh how fun" Pea groans flopping on my bed.

Over the next few days Toni and Cher have been busy planning this party, Reggies dad gave him a black eye and Jug went to look at some posh school for writing. I'm now in cheer practise. Once again Reggie's dad is here
"Hey! get over her! what the hell are you doing?" I watch Reggie walk to his dad "what the hell are you doing?"
"Dad, dad, it just slipped" Reggie tries to say
"It slipped?"
"It won't happen again, I promise"
"Reggie so needs to get out of that house" Cher places her arm around my shoulder
"I know, but he probably won't listen"
"If it does, so help me. I will come..."
"What?"
"Oh no" my eyes widen at Archie walking over to Reggie and his dad
"Your gonna hit him again? give him another black eye?" I start to walk over to them but Toni holds me back
"Archies got it" I ignore her and jog over to them. Marty looks at me then at Reggie
"What the hell have you both been saying?"
"Nothing, dad"
"Bit hard to miss the black eye after you yelled at him the other day AND now you were just about the threaten him before Archie came over. I'm sure my mom would love to hear all about this" I give Marty a sweet smile
"Rory this isn't your business"
"Reggie works his ass off on this field while you stand here and yell. We all have to listen to it. So, get the hell out of here" Archie tells Reggie's dad who looks a little shocked that we have both just spoken to him like this "go, or I'll throw you out myself"
"Back off, Andrews!" Reggie pushes Archie back yelling at him
"Reggie your dad has no right to treat you like this" Reggie pushes Archie again
"Woah woah woah let's take it down a peg yeah?" Reggie pushes Archie again and this time in get in between them both. Reggie goes to push again but once he realises it's me he stops. He walks off with his dad "Arch let's go" I pull Archie away and walk with him to the other Bulldogs. Pea grabs my hand and pulls me away
"What the hell was that?"
"What?" I frown confused
"You going off to save Reggie"
"Oh come on. Reggie's a friend" I cross my arms
"He's your ex"
"Yeah and? Pea I've know Reggie's parents for years. We grew up together I know what his dads like. Since when have you had an issue about me talking to Reggie"
"I don't. It's just..."
"It's just what?" I squint looking at Pea. There's something he's not telling me
"It doesn't matter"
"Well it obviously does" I raise my voice getting irritated with him
"Just leave it" and with that he storms off. I look at Cher and Toni who shrug their shoulders not knowing what's going on.

That evening we all head to Cheryl's party. Pea still seems off for some reason. Cheryl gives a little speech about how she's going to get rid of Mr Honey before the end of the year
"Ok what's up?" I face Pea
"Nothing"
"Pea" I sigh. I'm about to say something but then FP turns up in his cop car
"Parties over" he shouts
"You want to come back to mine?" I ask
"Not tonight. See you tomorrow" he kisses my forehead and leaves me to get on his bike and drive off. Great Archie's left with Reg and Peas abandoned me
"Hey you ok?" Mad Dog asks
"Yeah, no not really. I haven't got a ride home so looks like I'm walking"
"You want a lift?"
"Oh I don't...."
"Please. If Archie knew I'd left you he'd kill me"
"Sure" I give him a smile.
