Chapter 68- Quiz Show

"Well I mean it will be nice to go to Yale with Jug, but not this Brett guy. Doesn't sound to be a very nice person. Then again I'm studying as maybe he'll keep away from us" I tell mom as I'm pouring a cup of coffee "also when Pea visits I don't think he would want to go anywhere near me"
"I love that he's protective of you, but remember to be your own person while your at Yale. How is Sweet Pea been getting on at the construction site?" Mom asks as I place her coffee in front of her
"Good. Mr Keller has been showing him the ropes. Pea thinks that maybe in a few years he will be able to afford a little house, and after law school I'll be earning so we should be able to get a decent place together" I'm about to take a sip of my drink but then realise what I just said "I erm gotta go to work. I'll see you later mom"
"Rory. Wait..." I don't stop to listen to mom, it's probably a lecture to tell me not to rush into things with Pea. I'm not. Ok yes maybe I am thinking about the future, but that's normal right I'm 18 after uni I'll be 22 nearly 23 so of course at that age I'll be looking so have a house right?"

"Hey Fangs what can I get you?"
"The usual, if you remember it and Sweet Peas usual as well"
"Of course I remember. Give me a couple of minutes" I give Fangs a little wink

"Now's not a good time, Fangs. Im waiting for my Grind' Em date" I roll my eyes at Kevin but so he can't see. These two need to date again
"I'm not stalking you, I'm just picking up a couple burgers" that's when I zone out of their conversation, it's rude to listen in. Kevin's date shows up and they head to the 5 seasons. I bring Fangs the burgers. He looks sad almost
"Hey, you'll get him back"
"Don't meddle" he points at me
"Hmmm"

"Ok fine" i chuckle. My eyes scanning over his letter jacket "is that..."
"Our serpents jacket? Yeah"
"Sorry to break it to you but none of us are wearing ours. Not a lot of us left"
"Maybe that should change. You, me and Sweet Pea start wearing them again. We're a family, always will be"
"Maybe. I'll catch you later. Tell Pea I finish at 5 if he wants to pick me up. If not I'll ring mom"

"I didn't steal it. I borrowed it against ay future salary"
"What's going on?" I ask walking down the stairs to see Archie and Uncle Frank arguing. Hot Dog and Vegas are barking like crazy
"Not now Rory" Archie snaps
"Yes now. What happened? You may as well tell me because if you don't Sweet Pea will" I cross my arms wen I get to the bottom of the stairs
"If you needed money why didn't you come to me?"
"Uncle Frank did you steal money from dads company? Why didn't you asks us?"
"Because your my niece and nephew!" he shouts "I'm a 40 year old man. I did 8 years in the military, 7 of that in combat. How the hell do you think it makes me feel to have to ask a teenager for a loan?"
"What did you even need it for?" Archie asks
"I got a hot tip. A sure thing at the track"
"Gambling? Really?" I raise my eyebrows at him
"I was trying to earn enough to pay the guys their bonuses. but go ahead and think the worst. Everybody else does" Uncle Frank then walks out of the house
"What just happened" I breathe out.

In the end Uncle Frank managed to get everyone's bonus's, Betty, Veronica, Cheryl and Toni won the quiz show that had been going on this week... well that was until answers were found in Betty's bin so now Stonewall have the trophy and Betty has been suspended.

4 Weeks Later
"Hey Betty we got here as soon as we could" I say slipping into the booth at Pops
"What's going on?" Archie asks sliding in next to me
"I just don't think I can do this anymore. keep waiting for Jug to come back, but he doesn't and he won't. He won't ever come back. And I don't know how I'm supposed to keep going" Betty cries
