"Thanks giving. The time of year when friends
and family gather to eat turkey,watch the big game and give thanks for all that they have. But for Archie and I this year was going to be different, difficult without dad being here. Hiram Lodge was now mayor. Archie is keeping the rec Centre open for thanksgiving meaning I'm with Sweet Pea getting things sorted for tomorrow
"Where did you get all of this from Ronnie?" Archie asks wide eyed looking at the spread that Veronica has set out
"I put in a to-go order at the country club. Daddy gave me the idea.I figured this could supplement whatever you and yours are cooking for the kids" Monroe starts laughing picking up a large pot
"Tell me this doesn't mean you are deep-frying a Thanksgiving turkey"
"Hell yeah it does, it's a tradition" I tell him
"Our dad would do one every year"
"Best damn turkey I ever tasted" I look up and see FP walking into the centre
"You should come by tomorrow, Mr. Jones"
"Actually, Archie, that's what we need to talk about" I frown at FP feeling confused I hate to do this, but I'm under orders. To shut you down"
"What?" I gasp "no you can't"
"Orders from who?" Archie asks
"Let me guess the mayor?" Veronica crosses her arms. FP gives a little nod
"You've got to be kidding me. He can't do this"
"FP you know as well as anyone here that kids without something to do get into trouble" I say referring to the Serpents
"I know Rory, but he's mayor now, he can do anything. And technically, the attack on Dodger's
an open investigation, so this is still an active crime scene. Plus, Hiram said with the ice storm coming...."
"He's doing this to punish me, to get me to spend the holiday with him"
"Can't we push back?" Archie asks
"I did. For a couple of hours. Look I'm not supposed to say this, but I know what I would do if I was in your place. Screw him" I give FP a smile knowing he is still on the right side of all of this even if he is sherif
"Im sorry but Hiram lodge is not cancelling thanksgiving"
"Good man. Your both doing your dad proud" with that FP walks out.
The next evening the storm hits us. Veronica, mom, Archie and I are getting plates out and handing out hot drinks while Sweet Pea and Monroe are welcoming kids in at the rec centre
"Damn it" I shout
"What? What's happened?" Sweet Pea looks over at me cradling my hand
"Burnt my hand on the turkey pot"
"Let's run it under some cold water" mom says taking my hand in hers and leading me to the sink. I notice moms eyes tear up a little
"Mom? You ok?"
"Just this reminds me of when you and Archie where little. Your dad was cooking the turkey and told you not to touch. What did you do? Touch the damn thing. Cried in his arms until you fell asleep that night"
"I miss him"
"I know. So do I Rory" mom tucks my hair behind my ear with a weak smile. I look over and notice Archie talking to a group of people. The woman I recognise, shit that's Darla, she came to Betty's house after chic killed her boyfriend. I walk away from mom and over to Archie
"Arch. Why is Darla here?" I ask nervously
"Who?"
"The lady over there" I slightly nod towards the woman "that's Darla Dickinson. You know the woman who came to Betty's house last year" one of the older boys come over to us
"That's dodgers family"
"Oh shit" I breath out
"I'll take care of it"
"Arch. Be carful, they're dangerous" I watch Archie walk over to the woman and 2 men. Pea puts his arm around me making me jump "sorry" I say but continue to watch the interaction playing out in front of us
"We don't want any trouble either" I hear Darla say placing a gun down on the table "But we've come for the man who tried to kill our Dodger. Got a feeling he was you or one of your friends" Darla directs this to Archie. Pea brings me in even closer to him, his way of trying to protect me I guess
"I swear to you, no one here tried to hurt Dodger" Archie says looking at Darla
"Well someone did" one of the men says "and whoever it is, he's got a real soft spot for this place"
"We think we hang out here long enough,
he'll show" the other man says looking around
"In the mean time, how about some of that delicious food I'm smelling?"
