Chapter 74- Wicked Little Town

Musical episode again 😬 I really struggle writing for these ones so this one may seem a little rushed and not particularly great.

It was over. The evils of Stonewall Prep
had been vanquished. And life in Riverdale, more or less, picked up where it had left off. But, no one was surprised when a third round of sinister videotapes was delivered to our doorsteps.

"Did you hear Mr Honey won't let Kevin do the school musical this year? It's now a variety show" I ask Pea holding his had as we walk down the hall "I had already learnt all of the songs"
"Fangs told me earlier but said that Kevin has a plan up his sleeve"
"Did Fangs tell you this plan?" I raise my eyebrow
"No. Just to meet him and Kevin in the student lounge. Before last period"
"I see" we walk to my first lesson of the day, Pea and I stop outside the door "I'll see you at lunch"
"See you later baby" he leans down and pecks my lips before turning and walking away. I make my way to my seat and sit down next to Reggie.

Last period came round quicker than expected, Fangs and Kevin told us their plan which is to perform Random Number Generation from Hedwig. Kevin passes round T shirts that have numbers on. He instructs us to all sit in our last lesson, wait for him with his radio, then we join in with him in singing while doing a choreographed dance
"Errm this is all good Kev, but we need to learn a dance in 30 minutes?" I raise an eyebrow
"Yeah. I know some of us will pick it up but others..." Cheryl looks over at Pea who's sat next to me holding my hand
"That's why it's going to be simple. Vixens you'll stand mainly at the front. Anyone who is unsure can copy them. Ok like Rory said we have 30 minutes, so Toni, Cheryl take the lead"

"We are the random numbers" Kevin sings walking into the classroom. This is Archie's cue to sing
"In the regime of the solid state state. Wheels spin as you iterate"
K is X squared minus 1. But 0.54321" Cheryl sings. Toni, Veronica, Betty and I all stand to sing our lines
"When X is taken times 2. That's when we're coming for you"
"We're the random number. Generation, we are" this is when all of us do our choreographed dance. We run out of the classroom and to our lockers still singing, throwing tinsel and banners on the floor.
When it's all over the bell rings. Pea and I take each others hands, grab our things and walk out of school.

"Please"
"No"
"Please"
"No arch"
"But..."
"Archie I'm not singing in front of everyone. I did it once last year. I'm happy that did it but it's not a passion of mine. Why don't you ask Veronica?" I cross my arms while stood in our garage. Archie has decided to sign himself up for the variety show, well a band called The Archie's
"But Rory you were so good in the musical"
"Ok I'll think about it, but only because I'm supporting you" Archie smiles at me before going back to practicing his guitar
"Damn it" he sighs as one of the strings break
"Dads guitar is through here. There's probably spare strings in his case" I say opening up the door to the other part of the garage. I flick on the light and walk over to the guitar. Turning around I see Archie looking at the car they had been working on I give him a sad smile
"I miss him Rory"
"I miss him too".

"Ooo he comes bearing gifts" Veronica smiles at Archie holding cups of coffee in his hands
"Yeah well wait until you hear why he's got you all coffee" I chuckle sitting down next to Betty with my drink in my hand
"I know this seems a little last minute"
"Understatement" i mutter
"I signed us up for the variety show. To perform as a band"
"Well obviously I'm completely in" Veronica says
"You know I support you kids and your rock 'n' roll, but I really have to finish these essays or else my girlfriend over there is gonna lock me in the stocks" Jughead jokes
"It's true jug has a lot of work to do, but I think you can take a little time out for this. It's senior year and we promised we would start taking advantage of that. Now does this band have a name"
"The Archies. Which I think is a little unfair since I am obviously the better twin here" I point to myself
"Was the me me me's taken?" Jug laughs
"Look we can change the name"
"No"
"Of course you'd say no Veronica"
"What I like it"
"What's up Riverdale" Kevin's voice breaks through the speaker "are you trying to tear me down? Well sorry, I'm the new Berlin Wall baby. Now get your asses to the music room!" I look at Archie frowning. We make our way to the music room and there's Kevin in full drag. Toni is on the drums, Fangs and Pea are playing the guitars
"Whoo" I cheer looking at Pea in a tiger jumpsuit. Kevin jumps down the stage and kisses Archie making us all scream. Honey walks in
"Hello Mr Honey. Hello Riverdale you wanna try and tear me down?"
"Your done Mr Keller. Your off the variety show" Mr Honey then goes over to the speakers and unplugs them, but we're all cheering at Kevin who walks out of the room.

"Hold still" I chuckle taking off Peas makeup that Kevin had put on
"It's torture"
"Oh come on it's not that bad. I'm nearly done" I swipe the remaining eyeliner away "done. You can open your eyes" Sweet Pea blinks a few times before his eyes focus on me
"Thank you"
"That's ok. I couldn't really leave you suffering, scrubbing your face raw with just water now could I?"
"I have always wondered why you use so many products. Now I know" he chuckles picking up my face wash
"You know you were pretty hot on that stage"
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah" I place my arms around his neck as he smirks down at me "I have 40 minutes before I have to be at Betty's for her sleep over"
"Perfect" he leans down capturing my lips with his. I lead him to my bedroom and close the door behind me with my foot.

"Okay, I'm gonna try it" Betty says opening her mouth. Cheryl takes some gummy bears and trying to throw them into Betty's mouth
"Whoo" we all yell when she does it
"Okay, can we please order pizza from Little Cicero's?" Betty begs. Toni scoffs a little "guys it's not a sleep over without a greasy pizza. Right Kev?" We all look over at Kevin who's sat on Betty's window seat looking out
"Kev?" I sit up from my position on Betty's bed
"Sorry it's just... working on the variety show made me feel like I was reconnecting with pre farm Kevin. Mr Honey didn't just take that from me. He made me fell like I was nothing. Like I didn't matter" Kevin sighs looking back out of the window
"You know something that makes me feel better?" Betty says. He presses play and the beginning of Wig In A Box starts playing "on nights like this when the world's a bit amiss" betty walks over to Kev and hugs him. She then walks over to Toni "and the lights go down across the trailer park. I put on some makeup turn on the tape deck and put the wig back on my head" Betty places a tiara on her head "suddenly, I'm Miss Midwest Midnight Checkout Queen. § Until I head home and I put myself to bed"
"I hear what your saying Betty but I'm not sure
even a makeover montage will help" Kevin speaks. Kevin's words mean nothing and we all take out makeup and wigs, giving Kevin a make over. I gasp realising something
"What if we all perform songs from Hedwig?"
"I love it and as president of the Student Body and Riverdale High's LGBTQIA Alliance, I promise you, I will Sit down with Principal Humbug and make this right" Cheryl speaks.

Since hearing that if any of us perform any songs from Hedwig we will be band from prom, we have all dressed up in drag
"Consider this a peaceful protest, Mr. Honey" Kevin speaks. Reggie stamps his foot
"Though I will weaponize these babies if I have to"
"Clearly you are all.. very passionate about what your feeling. But hot heads lead to unpredictability and anger. Violence. So I'm afraid the most prudent action to take at this moment is to... cancel the variety show"
"What?" I gasp. I then look at Veronica and an idea pops onto my head "you know what Mr Honey. That's fine. Because my friend Veronica here owns Pops. And La Bonne Nuit. We don't need to do the variety show here. Hell we don't need to do prom here" I walk over to our principal smirking "you want to break our spirits then keep trying because we will always find a way to get what we want. So Veronica what do you say?"
"I say, perfect idea Rory"

"Ladies and gentlemen, for our final performance of the evening, I am beyond honored to introduce, for the first time ever, The Archie's" Cheryl says into the microphone and there's a round of applause. We get up on stage, Archie with dad's guitar, Betty, Veronica and I singing, Kevin on the keyboard and Jughead playing the drums. Archie starts off singing the song 'Midnight Radio' then we all join in. We all end up of the roof to carry on singing.
