Chapter 78- The Preppy Murders

We only have a few weeks left of high school and Archie and Veronica have split up because Archie kissed Betty, but they are pretending to date so not to cause suspicion. Archie and I were delivered a tape of the black hood pointing the gun at someone in a mask that looks like Archie. Why couldn't our last week at Riverdale just be normal? I have my graduation gown ready let's just hope nothing else happens in the next few weeks, but then again this is Riverdale

"Hey mom what's up?" I say looking up from my book
"When Archie comes home I need to talk to you both. It's about your fathers hit and run case"
"Oh" I close my book now feeling a little sick. I thought all of this was over and done with, that we could all move on. Mom and I sit in silence for a few minutes until the door opens and Archie walks in
"Archie can you sit down for a moment. I had a call today with a defense lawyer for your father's hit-and-run case. The judge is getting ready
to make his decision, and the lawyer reached out to me, to us, as your dad's family, to see if we would be willing to make a statement in court, asking the judge of leniency"
"For the dad or the son?" Archie asks
"No. Actions have consequences and my dad is dead"
"Well, George Augustine pled guilty to keep his son out of it. He's not contesting his role in the accident.But he might get a lesser sentence if we publicly forgive him"
"He shouldn't be the one in prison. The person who killed my dad has basically got off Scott free"
"Rory he hasn't really. His dads in prison"
"Yeah well at least he's alive" I get up from the dinning room table and storm upstairs into my bedroom.

"Rory can we talk?" Archie says walking into my bedroom a few days later. I'm currently on the phone to Sweet Pe
"Sure. Hey Pea I'll ring you back later. I love you" I put my phone down and sit up on my bed "what's wrong?"
"George came to visit me today. His son has pleaded guilty. He's going to jail. They're charging him as an adult. George asked me to write a letter to hopefully change what happens to his son"

"I...."
"He killed dad. He kept driving. He left dad to die alone" i but in
"I said no"
"Good. Don't get me wrong it sucks he's being charged as an adult but maybe if he hadn't of left dad, then we could have...."
"Rory he is the reason dad is dead. He's getting what he deserves"

"Uncle Frank?" I frown opening the door to him
"Hi kiddo how are you?"
"Good, but what are you doing here?"
"Your mom called. Said she's worried about Archie"
"He's fine, we'll other than the fact I came home to a smashed TV yesterday, but if you want to see him he's upstairs. In his bedroom"
"Thanks kid" uncle Frank walks passed me and upstairs to Archie's room while I go back to sitting on the couch with Sweet Pea. We continue on with our conversation until I hear Archie shout
"Your a fraud. A coward!"
"Is that all you got?!" uncle Frank shouts back
"Wanna get out of here for a bit?"
"Hell yeah. Pops?" I suggest. Pea smiles at me and I know that that's my answer. We quickly grab our jackets and leave the house shouting a quick "pea and I are going to Pops. Back later"
I arrive back at home a few hours later to see uncle Frank and Archie both with ice packs and mom sat with a cup of coffee in her hand
"Do I even want to know?" I ask dropping my jacket on the couch
"Uncle Frank is turning himself in"
"Really?"
"Yeah. Moms going to be his lawyer"
"Could you at least wait till after graduation? I know it won't be the same as dad being there but..." I shrug my shoulder not really sure what to say next
"Of course. Wouldn't miss it for the world"

"Wait Charles killed Brett and Joan? He's the one behind all of these tapes?" I frown looking at Betty
"Yeah. Well the murders, And David who was the owner of a store that sold snuff films. Said he did it because they committed crimes themselves"
"Sounds like the black hood all over again. Killing sinners" i mutter
"But guess who was behind the tapes"
"JB"
"What?" my eyes almost pop out of my head
"Oh and Chic and Charles are dating"
"Holy shit. Please tell me this is all over with now. Can we enjoy our last week here?"
"There is one more thing Rory that might upset you" Archie says looking at me
"What now?"
"The letter. I wrote it. Dad believed in forgiveness, he wouldn't want a boys mistake to define the rest of his life. Unfortunately for Jeffrey he will carry this with him forever, but he doesn't need to go to prison for years"
"But we lost dad?" my eyes water
"I know. Uncle Frank knocked some sense into me, so I'm here to knock it into you. Jeffery will always remember what happened, it will haunt him for the rest of his life. That's punishment enough. Dad wouldn't want an eye for an eye. Frank and I are going to his grave this evening if you want to join. Place some flowers down"
"Ok" I wipe the tears that have fallen
"Your dad would be so proud of both of you" Betty pulls me into a hug while Jughead hugs Archie "now let's focus on graduation"
