"Where do you work?" David asks as Darrian and him sat at the table eating dinner.
"I do construction wit' ma pops."
"Really? I neva seen ya uniform or nothin'."
Darrian laughs. "That lets me know youn go snoopin' through ma shit."
David laughs a little while looking at the table. He looks at Darrian again. "Do you like it?"
"Yeah. The money good."
The word money made David's insides light up. Maybe he could get a job in construction.
"It's ma pops business," Darrian continues, "and I been workin' wit' 'em since I was five."
"That's cool." David wished he could see his father. "Ya parents separated?"
"Yeah, but they coo' jus' ain't work out."
"It's good that they still are on speaking terms."
"Yeah, they not wit' that petty shit."
"My parents weren't neither...Ion think."
Darrian nods. "What's ya brotha name?"
"How do you know 'bout 'em?"
"My ma. She tol' me stuff 'bout'chu the first night you came."
"His name Ethan but I use ta call 'em Notti."
"I gotta friend named Noti."
David's eyes widen. "Really?!"
"Yeah. But ion think he ya brotha. He look nothin' like you. He tall and dark skin."
David's face drops and he looks at his plate. He thought maybe this was his time to reunite. Guess not. "Oh...well um, could I come work wit'chu and ya pops?"
