A few minutes later we came out human and dressed.
"Mom how do you feel?" Quinn asked anxiously.
"Sore and tired."
"Dad how about you?"
"The same."
"Mom you looked amazing when you shifted into a ...? What was that?"
"A dragon." I said.
"I have never seen one before then I saw two."
"Two?" I said. I looked at Paddy.
"I had to shift into one to keep up with you." He said bashfully.
"Was it painful?" I asked.
"Amazingly it was not."
"Come on. John has been asking for you two." We went to Scott's quarters.
Elder Camarillo and Shaun were in visiting John.
"I am telling you Grandpa. I feel fine." John was telling Shaun.
"I understand John but until your parents are back. I will fell better if you stayed here with Scott and Elder Camarillo."
"Oh all right." He sighed.
"What happens when his parents come back?" Paddy asked.
"He can go home." Shaun said turning around to us.
"Welcome back." He hugged us both.
"How are you?" He looked into Paddy's eyes. He could see the sadness there. "I know Son."
"Kylie." He held me in his arms. "How ...why ...what?" He looked down at me.
"I shifted because I was bit by two shifters. I turned into a dragon."
"They bit you?" Elder Camarillo said with disgust.
"Yes Sir. Right after they stabbed ..."
"Mom." I went to John and hugged him.
I could feel the change in him and his scent had changed also. He felt very strong. His scent had shifted from a kitten to a panther and something else I could not place.
"Mom you were beautiful as a dragon."
"You saw me?" He nodded his head. "You were kind of hard to miss." He said shyly.
"Kylie where have you seen a dragon before?" Shaun asked.
"It was in one of my books Grandpa."
"In a book!" Shaun, Quinn and Elder Camarillo exclaimed.
"I can show it to you if you like?" John offered.
"I thought we could only shift if we have seen the animal." Shaun said to the Clan Elder. "I am beginning to see that Kylie is the exception to the rule."
"She was always the exception." Paddy said proudly.
"Sir I understand I maybe charged for destroying the prisoners without permission." The Clan Elder and Shaun just stared at me. John, Quinn and Paddy gasped.
"Kylie?" Elder Camarillo found his voice first. "What?"
"I executed the prisoners."
"Kylie they deserved far worse." Shaun said.
"Kylie no one would fault you in what you did." Elder Camarillo said softly. "You killed two prisoners, who were in all tense and purposes trying to escape. They killed one Elite Guard and injured two others. You were not only doing your duty. You were protecting your children. In all honesty I wish I did it."
I looked at Shaun. "He is right Kylie. You were doing your duty as an Elite Guard and as a mother. You will not be charged for anything."
"But I killed your parents." I said softly.
"Yes I know but they have tried to kill you since before they even met you." He hugged me. "You have taken a great weight off my shoulders. I do not have to worry about them anymore." He kissed both my cheeks. "I have never felt such relief." He smiled.
"Where are they buried?"
"In various parts of the cave." The Clan Elder said.
"You did the same thing as you did with Caleb."
"Yes my dear."
Shaun's head tilted to one side. "Kylie what is wrong with your eyes? They just turned blue." Paddy was staring at me. He looked at John. He was still holding my hand.
"John what are you thinking about right now?" Quinn asked.
"How beautiful Mom looked as a dragon." I let go of his hand. My eyes went back to their brown.
"He can do it too." Elder Camarillo whispered.
"Do what?" John looked confused.
"You can shift Mom." Quinn said.
"I can." He smiled.
"Do not change Mom unless it is an emergency."
"All right."
We brought John back to our quarters. We dressed for Pete's burial.
Elder Camarillo presided over the burial as he did with the other Boys.
John cried and yelled in their special language. Elder Camarillo was crying with him.
They spoke together and at that moment I placed John's other scent. It was the combination of his brothers' scents.
We returned to the cave Katey as usual had a meal prepared.
Everyone was very quiet.
We stayed with everyone for a while then we went back to our quarters. John stayed with Arthur and some friends.
