The disadvantage of our special hearing is that we can hear when people are arguing. Especially when the people are living in such close quarters. We try very hard not to listen but sometimes it is not easy.
A few days later Suzie finally told Quinn what the problem was with her.
"What did you think you were going to have Suzie? I am a mixed blood."
"I thought it would be a mortal child not ... not ... whatever it is."
"She is a manimal." Quinn said gently. "Something very rare."
"How rare Quinn?" She shouted. "There are three of them here."
"Yes and born to a McCurdy."
"You think it is our fault?" She screamed.
"No it just worked out that way." He sighed.
"Remember Quinn we are from the same bloodline."
"You are trying to find fault with everything."
"Papa loud." Missy said groggily.
"I am sorry Missy. Momma and I were talking too loud." Suzie must have done something because Quinn growled angrily.
"How do you expect to know her if you keep shying away from her?"
"It will bite me." Suzie cried.
"Papa no bite." Missy said.
"It?! Her name is Missy." He sighed again. "Come on Missy. Its time we left."
We heard a door slam then our main door open.
"Gramp. Gramp."
"Good morning Missy." She hugged Paddy.
"Gram. Gram. Mama loud."
"Yes Missy."
"You heard?" Quinn said turning red. "Well at least it is out in the open."
"You knew it was coming Son." Paddy said.
"Yes I know. It does not mean I wanted it to come."
"I understand."
"Is the other room available?"
"I am sure John will not mind sharing."
"It will be only for a little while."
John walked out his room. "If I remember correctly it was your room to begin with. I do not mind sharing."
"Unky." Missy yelled.
"Hey how is my favourite niece?" John said as he picked her up.
"Yum."
"Oh you are hungry. Well let us go into the kitchen and make you something to eat."
"Unky." She bounced in his arms.
We could hear the two of them making breakfast.
"I think she will like here Quinn." Paddy said.
"I think so too. It is certainly a more loving atmosphere." He said sadly.
"She will come around."
"I do not know Mom."
"She is part of my bloodline if she knows what is good for her."
"That is just it. She might not think we are good for her."
"Well you can stay here as long as you like."
