Abilities: Immense Physical Prowess (All of his physical abilities are comparable to Sesshomaru's, however, Kokuryū is stronger while Sesshomaru is faster), Master Swordsman (Has been noted to have fought Sesshomaru to a standstill when they both used swords, his Swordsmanship has been described as fighting a living waterfall and is based primarily on training, experience, and instinct), Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant (Preferred method of combat against weaker opponents, usually attacks from positions of aerial superiority), Flight (Kokuryū is capable of independent flight in his Humanoid form and True form, and can also hover motionlessly above the ground), Immense Yōki (His reserves have been stated to be equal to Sesshomaru's; He often uses it for intimidation or to defeat weaker opponents without a fight), Master Yōki Manipulator (Can use his Yōki in creative and unexpected ways with extreme efficiency, also uses it to increase the power of his attacks and his defense; Can use his Yōki to accelerate his healing drastically, even being capable of regrowing limbs), Transformation (Can change between his Humanoid and True forms at will), Dragon Claws (Using transformation he can utilize his True form's claws while in humanoid form, he utilizes this technique to enhance his Hand-to-Hand combat), Getsuga Tensho Kagizume (After acquiring Zangetsu and mastering the use of Getsuga Tensho with it, he learned to use the technique through his claws), Cloud Generation and Manipulation (A technique unique to Dragon Yokai, the user uses Yōki to create and manipulate clouds for a variety of uses, such as defense, to make a platform, or for transportation), Genius Combatant (Able to adapt and learn while fighting at a rapid rate)

Equipment: Zangetsu (A Black Yōkai Sword made for Kokuryū by Totosai using his some of his fangs; The special technique of this weapon is the Getsuga Tensho, a slashing attack that absorbs the user's Yōki into the sword, concentrates it at the tip, and then fires it off as a black and red crescent energy slash of varying size and power; He's able to contain the Getsuga Tensho within the blade to augment its attacks; It is unbreakable and can be called to Kokuryū's hand from any distance with a simple gesture if they are separated)

Robes of the Dragon (A set of Black Yōkai Robes with a red dragon pattern, they are noted to be as durable as Sesshomaru's armor and can be repaired using the wearer's Yōki)

Trivia: He immediately challenged Sesshomaru to a fight during their first meeting, which ended in a tie, after this fight he declared Sesshomaru his rival, which he acknowledged as mutual. He challenged Inuyasha as a favor to Totosai for making his sword and to see if Inuyasha could have beaten Sesshomaru, he fought without his sword and still won the fight without taking any damage, although he did need to use his clouds to block the Wind Scar, later noting that Sesshomaru likely underestimated Inuyasha and that was what cost him the fight. After his battle with Inuyasha, he noted that if he hadn't used his clouds to block the Wind Scar, he likely would have lost a limb, although, he did add that this was mostly because he wasn't using his sword. Inuyasha described fighting him as being similar to fighting a force of nature, whereas fighting Sesshomaru was like fighting water. He initially assumed that Sesshomaru was unaware of Rin's presence when he noticed her following him, due to him initially being unaware of Jaken following him. He is one of the few people capable of making Sesshomaru show any emotion. He refused to challenge Sesshomaru until his arm grew back, as he believed that even if he won, it would be a pointless victory since Sesshomaru wouldn't be at his strongest. He's indifferent to Humans and will typically only attack them if they attack him first. He is lovingly engaged to an Oni Daiyōkai named Yamato who is as powerful as him and Sesshomaru, and extremely skilled with creating and manipulating ice. He first met Yamato while wandering and fell for her at first sight, with them becoming engaged after he defeated her in combat. He finds Yamato's horns and strength sexy. Yamato's kanabo was made specifically for her by Totosai. He slept with many different types of Yōkai women before meeting Yamato. He has a pet Nekomata named Matatabi that he uses as a mount.
