Backstory: A childhood friend of Akiza who comes from a well-off family, Charles was devastated when Akiza ran away and as a result threw his all into being a better Duelist in the hopes that when they reunited, his Dueling would show that he was still her friend and that their bond was Unbreakable. He joined the Fortune Cup because he thought it would lead him to Akiza or show her that he was still looking for her.
Trivia: He was believed to have the best chance of beating the Three Emperors, because of his Mastery of Fusion Summoning, however, this was before the other Signers gained access to methods of Advanced Synchro Summoning. He gave Akiza her Garden Rose Maiden card as a sign of their bond before she ran away, and she still treasures it. One of the reasons Akiza ran away was because she was afraid she would hurt Charles or that he would see her as nothing but a Monster. Before Akiza left, she gave him the Red-Eyes Time Wizard card as a symbol of their bond, and he later used its effect to win their duel during the Fortune Cup. He graduated from New Domino Duel Academy two years early so that he could look for Akiza. He has been noted as having a dark sense of humor. He has stated that Moonshadow Dragon and Black Rose Dragon are lovers. During their duel in Fortune Cup, he and Akiza were able to feel each other's emotions through their Signer Marks. He gave Akiza a Dandylion card and a Horseytail card before the battle against the Dark Signers, having originally planned to give them to her as a birthday gift before she ran away, and kept holding onto them for when they would reunite. He brought up the ironic and esoteric nature of the design layout for the Original Ener-D Reactor Control Units, given that they formed a pentagram.
