Minho's P.O.V

I don't know exactly where this maniac got it, but I'm pretty sure she was a Runner. For someone who has only been out for a few months she ran like she had years of training. Plus, she hadn't let us stop for like three hours. I think she was pushing us harder than I ever pushed my Runners.

As impressive as it was that wasn't what I really noticed. As I ran beside her it was clear she had a limp. I risked taking a glance at her face to see determination that was more than familiar. It was that look Newt got after his limp when he was determined to prove himself. It could have been from another injury, but something in her eyes made me think otherwise.

"Do you need something?"She asked, defensively.
"No,"I shrugged.

"Good. Then, stay focused on something besides your hair."

Despite her heavy breathing her words were crystal clear and kind of clever. She had quick comebacks to everything I said or anyone else for the matter. Y/N definitely has a fiery spirit. It sounds ridiculous, but I have another goal now. Befriend the random shank who tried to kill Newt the first time we met. In other words an average Tuesday.

Your P.O.V

As we were running I couldn't help but feel insecure about the limp. Of course there wasn't anything I could do but pray they wouldn't notice or at least think too much into it. If they did they might ask questions, and I really don't like making up something on the spot. Eventually, I had a list of replies for when people that were to curious would ask. I couldn't stand it.

A few girls in the Spring would say some crap about me being a survivor. Others were jerks about it. The one important thing in common with those people was that they saw me differently. I wasn't me anymore. I was a victim.

The shame only fuels my determination to be independent. That's why I couldn't help but feel self conscious when I saw Minho staring at me like he knew something.

"Do you need something?"I asked.
"No,"He shrugged.
"Good. Then, stay focused on something besides your hair."

Without stopping to see if he reacted I pushed myself harder. It was almost agonizing. Believe it or not I got this less than a year ago. It's been seven months give or take.

As I tried to keep my pace I saw Aris's eyes glance at me with concern he was failing to hide. Those looks could fill me with guilt or anger depending on the day. This time I was using it as fuel to keep going. I would not show weakness.

"We didn't all run,"Frypan panted out. Realizing I was probably going to hard on them I stopped and sat against the random rock next to me. It pains me to admit it, but I was grateful for that. My ankle was already cramping up, and if I wasn't careful it could end up slowing me down. I know I'm supposed to practice in moderation, but with these strangers here things had changed. They weren't allowed to know.

"You run way to fast for someone with a hurt ankle,"Thomas remarked. I uncomfortably shifted in my spot. I could tell Aris was going to say something, but Newt beat him to it.
"You're to nosy for your own good Tommy. It's going to hurt you one day."

There was something in the tone of his voice that sounded like he knew why someone would hate a limp being pointed out. Of course he has one, but it also sounded like it ran even deeper than that. Please tell me it doesn't. It seems strange, but I care about Newt. He made Andrea and Owen smile one last time. They were devastated to hear the news, but Newt had helped them calm down. He took a turn reading to Owen so I could climb with Andrea with last time. I was also glad they got to meet Aris, but I was surprised how grateful I am that Newt woke up that day. He has a kind soul so yes. I do in fact care for this boy I've known for four days.

In the distance I saw the sky growing darker. A storm was approaching. It looked like we had barely a few hours until we had to make it out of this hell.

"Why would it rain in a place like this?"Teresa asked.
"The weather is all our of whack here. These storms just come and go. That's not the bad part. It's the lightning you need to watch out for. One hit cooks you inside out,"I explained.

I looked up and realized I had just scared them to no end. That was absolutely the wrong thing to say.

"I can't tell whether or not you're being sarcastic,"Minho said.
"I wish. Don't worry though. As long as you have great luck, a hiding place, quick wits, or a plan you'll be fine,"I assured them.
"So what's the plan?"Thomas asked.
"We go to the building and get all packed up. When it's safe we leave. So let's get a move on."
"But my legs hurt,"Frypan complained.
"Yeah, and you're body will hurt if it's burned alive. Everybody up."

Frypan, Teresa, and Aris groaned as I made them stand up. Normally I would roll my eyes, but I still remember having to practice building my stamina out here. It was not a pleasant experience.

"You'll all sleep better than you ever have. It's a great befit,"I said, trying to sound upbeat.
"I don't think they care when you just attempted to kill them,"Minho whispered.
"Dramatic much?"
"I didn't even push my Runners that hard, and I was their Keeper."
"Yeah, well this isn't a test anymore. This is reality. You want to stay alive, right?"I asked.
"I am rather fond of breathing so yes."
"Then, don't let yourself slack off. Like it or not this is the real world, and the real world sucks."
"Great pep talk,"He said, slightly shaking his head.
"Glad you think so,"I replied, patting him on the back. With that we kept trudging forward because we can't be here much longer. The nighttime is where they can sneak up on you. In this world there's only one rule.

Eat or be eaten.
