The next three days felt like a blur. My emotions would run wild, between telling Nick I was going on a work trip that was important to telling Jamie how I was nervous about this secret weekend getaway that I was unsure about. Jamie had helped me pack a weekend suitcase that wasn't too big, we had finished putting it in my toiletries when she smiled at me. "Are you excited?" she asked zipping up my bag for me.Chewing my lip, I shrugged—it was the best I could do right now. "I don't know what to think, I mean this is our third date and now we are going away for the weekend? I love the idea, I think I am just more scared at the thought of Nick thinking it is about work—what did Noah even say, why is he gone this weekend?" Noah had texted me earlier that he already left for the airport, so Nick didn't t catch onto our lie.
"I think he said he had a friend he was going to go visit and work on music with" she said putting my bag by the door, "Fae, relax—you are going to have a great time, I promise" glancing at the clock Jamie started scooting me up the stairs where Nick stood in the living room on the phone with our mother.
"Yeah mom, she is just going for the weekend—some fancy work trip apparently, no I am not going with her—she is a big girl, can handle herself" my stomach dropped hearing Nick say that to our mother, she was always anxious when Nick or I had to travel. "Okay mom, love you too, I will get her to text you, sure, okay mom, bye" Nick hung up his phone before a chuckle escaped his lips. "You really need to call mom more often" he said noting the suitcase I had sitting beside me.
He was right though; I did need to contact my mother—even father more. Since moving in with Nick, I had contacted her maybe once or twice to let her know I was in fact alive and well. Nick would talk to them more than I did so most of the time he would fill them both in on whatever I was doing. "Ugh, thanks. . . I will keep that in mind" I said shrugging on my sweater from the couch. It was raining here today which I suppose didn't make flying such a terrible idea, but also meant there was a slightly higher chance of turbulence.
Nick smiled at me, as if he could see I was nervous. "You know, if you tell me where you are going I can book a flight and come along with you—wont even be in your way" Nick said trying to make me feel better.
Shaking my head at his offer, I grabbed my bag ready to haul it to the car he would drive to the airport to drop me off. "Relax, you are almost as bad as mom" he rolled his eyes as he grabbed his keys from the table. "I will be fine, you are going to be fine without me" I reminded him.
Pain wrote onto his face as he opened the front door for me, "I don't want to go years without seeing you again, Fae—and your job made that really easy for you" his words slapped me like bricks as I stood there trying to come up with words. It wasn't my job though, it was someone who was supposed to love me that kept me away from Nick, from my family, from the world.
Jamie placed her hand on my elbow, a silent signal that she knew what I was going through, had been through. "Nick, she is just gone until late Sunday—how about we get her to the airport and then you and I can go catch that movie" tossing her a thankful smile as she defused my brother before he could have a small meltdown—one that was long overdue.
Getting into the back as the couple climbed into the front seats, discussing what movie they'd like to go see or maybe if they should grab dinner before or after the movie. Seeing Nick happy always made me happy, who didn't want to see their family achieve everything?
Getting to the airport, Nick parked in the drop off lane as he climbed out to give me a hug. "You text me as soon as you land, alright? And if you need me, text me your location and I promise I will be on the next flight out" he wrapped his arms around me, bringing me into a bear hug that had my arms slightly flailing trying to breathe.
"Nick, you're worse than mom!" I said pushing him away slightly, only to smile and pull him into one more hug. "I promise I will text you; I might sleep before I do but relax. . . I will be fine" I reminded him for what felt like the millionth time.
Jamie hugging me, smiled at my brother. "Plus we all know she is going to text me first" Jamie said earning us all to laugh.
"She has a point; she hasn't smothered me so chances are I will—or I might surprise you both and text Jolly" their faces were priceless as they went to argue with me. Grabbing my suitcase I started retreating listening to them saying how I wasn't fair—all in a joking way.
Waving them off, I headed inside the airport, anxiety brewing in the pit of my stomach as I scanned the airport trying to find Noah. I know he was here earlier, again to hide from Nick and not let him catch onto us.
Pulling out my phone, I fired off a text letting Noah know I was here. Not long after, I got a text message from him saying 'I am here' and a pinged location.
Going through security I had checked in my bag and followed the little ping Noah had sent me—getting through security myself I looked around at the small gift shops that were around, before a small coffee place caught my eye and sat out front was Noah—he wore a sweater, sweats and his famous slides with socks.
Seeing me step closer, a smile bloomed lighting up his brown eyes as he hugged me. "I was getting worried someone stole you or you changed your mind" he chuckled earning an eye roll from me.
"No, sorry I wanted to check my bag in and get through security—little bit of a line, especially for a flight this late" it was pretty late, it was around nine in the evening.
"Don't worry—here I got you this" holding a small paper cup in his hand, I could see steam sliding through the mouthpiece as the smile on Noah's face remained.
"What's this?" I asked, accepting the small cup from him. Opening it, I didn't question before taking a sip—my mouth filling with the taste of smooth chocolate. "Hot chocolate?" I asked looking up at Noah.
Nodding his head, he led the way as we took a seat in few empty spots in the terminal. "I thought we could start a small tradition, hot chocolate for good luck" my heart exploded at those words as I looked at Noah who seemed nervous and excited to share this with me.
"I love it, thank you—I will gladly start this with you" cheering our cups, I smiled at Noah—"to a new tradition, good luck" I winked as I took a sip of my own hot chocolate. Noah repeating the motion with his own.
The airport was getting a bit busier, it was boarding time now as Noah led us through—handing our tickets to the hostess before leading us to our seats, we got second class which I was excited about, I think if he had got first class I would have had a heart attack.
Sitting in the window seat, Noah sat on the end seat as he wrapped his hand around my own after buckling us both in. "Are you a nervous flyer?" I asked looking at our hands that were interlaced together.
"Not really, touring so much I suppose you get used to it pretty quickly—but if I say yes, will you hold my hand longer?" he said, eyes glancing down at our hands.
"I will hold your hand the whole flight" I said earning a chuckle from him.
Leaning in, I could feel his breath on my ear which sent my heart racing. "Then I am terrified of flying, Fae" he said as his lips brushed against the bottom of my ear.
Gulping, I leaned back in my chair—hand squeezing his before I said softly back to him. "I can help with that" and I did, I didn't let go—not when the air hostesses began their safety instructions, not when we took off into the air, or when we did hit turbulence that had me squeezing his hand and him whispering it was okay to me, and not when the captain said we would be landing—I held his hand until those wheels touched the ground once more.
"This is your captain speaking, I know it is really late and you all had a long flight—" it was just under five hours. "But we have made it to Florida, welcome to your destination folks" said the captain as some people cheered and others began grabbing their stuff.
Getting off the plane with Noah, we made our way to the baggage claim waiting for our suitcases. "Florida? What are we going to do here?" I asked feeling excited to even be just here with Noah in this moment.
"Surprise, come on our cab is waiting for us" following him we found a man that held a sign that read 'Noah Sebastian' and when Noah said it was for him the driver let us follow him out to the car where we began our drive—the roads weren't too busy with it being so late in the night.
Pulling into a small little resort looking place, Noah paid the driver as we grabbed our stuff and headed to the front desk. "Hi—room for Noah Sebastian" he said to the older looking gentleman who seemed impressed that we had come in so late.
"Here you are, call front desk if you two need anything—enjoy your stay" he smiled at us, and not just a fake 'this-is-my-job' kind of smile, a smile he meant his words.
"Thank you" both Noah and I said at the same time, looking at one another as a small blush crept onto my cheeks.
Following Noah to the room, it was a small little almost villa style place—going up the small steps, I could hear the beach on the other side as he swung the door open and turned on a light, showing the beautiful place. "Welcome to the third date, Faith."
