Authors Note: 44K reads. Each milestone I swear my mouth drops every time. Thank you all so much for the insane amount of love, it truly doesn't go unnoticed.
It would be dumb to assume this week even went remotely okay. Every time I left my bunk I was met with silence from the guys—Jamie has been texting me trying to check in on me and seeing how I am doing.
How was I doing?
Last few days felt like my soul has been ripped from my very being, the man I was madly in love with would leave before I even entered a room and before I could even try and say a single word to him. My own brother wasn't even giving me the time of day anymore, the dissatisfaction that laid on his face was clear when he saw me that night—Ray had played his game, and he had won.
Sitting by myself in the lunch area, I picked at my insane small amount of food—my appetite has been little to none, even if today was a cheap pizza day, my insides churned at the thought of trying to eat anything. "You look like hell" looking up, Jamie plopped down across from me, her own cheap slice of pizza in her own hand. She looked great, even on tour. She died her hair half black half purple before we started, and it was braided neatly on each side of her. She wore a crop top which hugged her figure nicely and of course since it was warmer out, she wore her signature high-waisted shorts.
Flashing my phone screen at her, it revealed small apartments in the LA area, something I could afford which wasn't a lot. "Looking for a new hell to call home" I mumbled scrolling once more.
"Fae, you can't leave me alone with them. . . They'll eat me alive" she dramatically waved a hand in front of herself. "How they are treating you is unfair—well, Noah maybe not so much. What even happened, one second, you're in love and the next you are with Ray?" she took a bite of her food, cursing as it was a lot warmer than she had thought it would be.
My mind was racing, it took me everything to not quit this tour on spot—if I wanted to move then I needed the money to do so, and my savings would only last so long. Never fall onto savings if you didn't know you had a different job lined up fully. Sure, I still work with Jamie but after the experience of my brother and Noah, changing fields crossed my mind.
"He played me too well, just like always" the words slipped out faster than I could even stop myself.
Pausing her bite, her brows furrowed. "Fae, what does that mean?"
"Afternoon, ladies" Ray said taking a seat beside me.
Wanting to shrink in on myself. I looked at Jamie who watched us carefully, "hey, Ray, what's up?" she asked putting her food back on the cheap plate in front of her.
His smile would lure anyone in, but instead it churned my stomach often, I knew that smile and what kind of person he was. "I was thinking, why not invite us on your podcast, it could be fun—we would love to have some chats with you lovely ladies."
The person Jamie was, she agreed smiling as she set up a meeting date for this afternoon since we had some time. Ray patted my back before stepping away, meeting up with his friends who very well knew of the abuse he had put me through. "Fae?" sliding my eyes back to Jamie, I could see the gears working in her head.
"Did something happen?" shaking my head, I grabbed my plate of pizza before tossing it out. I needed time to mentally prepare for this interview.
When the time came for the interview, I slid myself from the bus. Halting when I saw Noah doing his workout with his trainer, his eyes scanned me before what looked like a scoff as he turned away from me. That hurt.
Meeting Jamie and the others in the venue, we sat in the green room. Ray once more sat next to me as his band members Luke, Kayden and Shuan.
Luke was their drummer; he was never around as much but just as guilty as the other two knowing what Ray put me through.
Kayden was their singer; he sure had the looks which lured in girls like a moth to a flame—he was around Ray the most.
Shuan was their bassist; he knew as well—his girlfriend even commented about it once where she was told to drop it, I wonder if she ever got out of that relationship before things sank like mine did.
"Good to see you again, Faith" smiled Kayden.
Trying to smile as Jamie set up her camera, she glanced over at him unsure of what he meant. I could only manage a weak smile before she took a seat next to Shuan and Luke. "So, welcome to the podcast—would you like to introduce yourselves for those who are listening at home?"
Kayden started, as the rest of the band listed off their names and what they do in the band. "Awesome, welcome on in Joker King. Those of you unaware, they currently are on tour supporting the lovely lads in Bad Omens, how do you feel?"
Ray's voice had me nearly jumping out of my skin as he spoke. "So cool so far, it just proves if you want something hard enough, working for it will get you it" the comment slid its way towards me.
He wanted me.
The hour we spent with them had my leg bouncing—thankfully Jamie carried the interview, as soon as we were done, I began picking up the things we used. "Good seeing you again, Faith" this time it was Luke who said it.
Paling ever so slightly, I watched as they exited. The interview was done while Bad Omens were taking the stage, any moment they would be done their set as they were on the encore songs now. "What the hell was all that about?" Jamie pointed her finger back where the guys had just left.
"Nothing don't worry" I said, my voice not sounding too convincing.
Crossing her arms, she closed the door to the room before heading towards me. "Faith Folio, what did he mean by it was good to see you again?" going to open my mouth to say it was nothing, she rose a brow turning her chin telling me if she sensed I was lying, I wouldn't be walking out of here easily.
Licking my lips, it felt dry in here—my throat feeling like I was in the desert. "I know Ray. . ."
"How do you know him?"
"He's my ex. . ."
