S͎m͎a͎l͎l͎ ͎T͎a͎l͎k͎

A few days had passed since that night. No one really talked about it since Kehlani didn't bring it up. She knew that if she talked about it, she would never stop thinking about it more than she already was.

She was on her way to her mama's house to go and check on Kadek since she hasn't seen him in a while. She pulled up into the driveway making her way to the front door.

It didn't take long for her mama to open the door, with Kadek on her hip. Kadek eyes lit up as soon as his eyes landed on Kehlani. "Mama!" He squealed. Kehlani walked inside the house and took Kadek from her mama's hands. "Aww, Kadek did you miss me that much?" She hugged him. "I missed you a whole lot mama, when am I coming back?"

Kehlani looked at her mama then back at Kadek. "I'll come get you after I get off tomorrow, okay?" Kadek smiled, nodding. "Okay mama, I'll wait for you."

Kehlani put Kadek back onto his feet, and he took off running back into the living room where the tv was playing one of the shows he liked.

Kehlani looked at her mama, who was already staring at her like something was wrong. "Was is it girl, tell me." Kehlani looked at her mama before she sighed. "Mama something happened, and it just.. made me lose my train of thought." She rubbed her head slowly.

Her mama ushered her into the kitchen, sitting across from her. "Tell me about it, I'll give my opinion." Kehlani sighed, sitting down.

She told her about the party she went to, and that she'd seen La'monte there and how she froze up. "Mama I just didn't feel like.. myself, I felt things that I haven't felt in a long time, and I don't know what to do."

She watched her mama's face the whole time, but it didn't change in any way. Her mama put both her hands on the table. "Kehlani, I don't know why you felt those things, but don't let it effect how your life is. You've gotten that raise that you've been wanting and Kadek is the best and only grandson I've ever had." She rambles. "You don't let that little encounter effect the way you're living. You both might not even see each other again."

Kehlani listened to what her mama said, and nodded. "You're right mama, I'm.. sorry." She says. She smiles, "Theres nothing to be sorry about, just make sure you're focused and get what you need done."

Kehlani always knew she could count on her mama to have her back.

Kehlani stood up from the table, "Well, imma go back home and get ready for work." She says to her mama. Her mama tilts her head. "You've never worked past six, is this because of that raise?"

Kehlani nodded, "I have to be at work more often because I'm a manager now too, you remember Dontrell right?" Her mama smiled, "Of course I remember him. So you're his manager then?" Kehlani nodded. "He's says he's been working a lot to get where he is now, and that the company is gonna make him show more than he is now."

Her mama laughed, "Well if he has that much faith in that company then you better not let him down." She says, "Go ahead and get ready for work, I love you." Kehlani hugged her mom. "I love you too mama."

She left a few minutes after telling Kadek goodbye, and headed to work. It didn't take her long to get there as she pulled into a parking space near the entrance.

She got out from her car, when she felt vibrations in her purse. She pulled out her phone, and looked at the contact name. It was Dontrell. She huffed, and answered the phone.

"Hey Trell, what is it?" She says into the phone. A few seconds past before he answered, "Just seeing where you at, you supposed to be my manager and you minutes minutes late." Kehlani rolled her eyes. "Boy bye I just pulled up, ain't nobody worried about no three minutes." Dontrell laughed on the other end of the phone. "Aight Lani, I'll see you when you get inside." They say their goodbyes, as Kehlani made her way into the building.
