Chapter 16

After Dylan got dressed and packed his things into his swim bag they departed from his house. He turned on his alarm and locked the door.

They took a set of stairs down to the basement.

"You have two cars?" Liana asked in amazement. She can barely afford one. She recognizes his black hummer that he's always driving in. It's the white sports car that she doesn't recognize. It looks brand new.

He shook his head to her question. "It is a gift for Devin. Don't tell him about it. He's turning 16 next weekend and this is from me."

"That's so sweet of you. I bet he's going to love it."

"I know for sure he is. He hates riding the school bus. He's not going to be expecting this present from me at all. I keep telling him that he's not going to get a car until his senior year like I did."

"Does he know how to drive?'

"Of course. He has his permit so I let him drive my ride when we travel to our grandparent's house."

"I walked to school all of my high school years," she smiled fondly at the memory. "This is a small town and the school was only down the street from me."

"Well as you can see, my house is very far from the school since I live on the outer part of the town."

Both of them finally got into the car and backed out of the driveway. This is a small fairly new neighborhood on the outskirts of town. The roads haven't been paved yet. It seems like Liana's small hometown is finally trying to expand some.

Dylan lives forty minutes away from the gym so this will be a long ride.

"It feels so weird to be going back to work after our long trip away. A lot of things have happened over the last two days."

She feels a strange closeness to Dylan now after what happened in the elevator last night. And then to see that video of him carrying her out of that death trap, she doesn't even want to think about it.

He had to sit in that dark room for who knows how long, probably afraid because she wasn't responding to him. She can only imagine how she would have handled the situation if she was in his position. She would have been terrified.

"I'm just ready to back into the water," he signed quickly.

Liana smiled to herself as a memory came to her mind of when she was little. Her mom used to nag her dad about trying to sign and drive at the same time. It was kind of like driving with someone who is texting and the passenger is afraid for their life. She always thought that her mom was over reacting which was just so hilarious.

Dylan seems to be concentrating on the road so she doesn't say anything else. Maybe she should meditate too because she has a lot of things running through her mind also.

So many people across the world now know her name and her face.

She hasn't been this popular since high school and college during her wild days. She'll never forget how once it was all over, those hundreds of friends began to disappear. She wished that she would have taken the time out to really try to connect to some of those people personally. She thought that the more friends that she had the merrier, when in truth it's really the closest few that have your back that's important. That situation is just like the one she is in now. Once it blows over, all the people who know her name will forget it and disappear.

Until recently she was very depressed and lonely. The only company she had was her mom and step dad who put so much stress on her and dragged her through hell while she lived with them.
