Chapter 24

Liana still can't believe what she saw. She thought that maybe Dylan had forgot to pick up his little brother because he was to stressed and not really thinking. But noooo he was to busy shacking up with that lawyer.

She was right to think that Dylan was close to April. It has been obvious since she saw them hug earlier. It's still hard to tell just how close they are though.

She doesn't know what to think now. She thought that after the two days they spent together, and the things that they did together, that they were in some way a couple. Maybe she was just dreaming.

He saw her in his driveway and he didn't even make a good effort to speak to her. He was walking slow like he just knew that she would wait for him. Well she didn't. That is something that he'll have to learn about her. She'll only stick around if he really seems to want her to, and when she saw him tonight it really looked like he didn't want that.

She thought she meant something to him.

She stopped at her usual gas station. She needs to buy her another toothbrush. She hopes that they sell them.

She's running low on money though. She is so happy that she gets paid at the end of next week. She only have a little less than 20 dollars left.

She goes in and Ray is behind the counter.

"Hey you're back and you're okay," although his voice is low and his face is straight, this is the most emotion she has ever seen him show. He looks so relieved to see her.

"Yes I'm okay," she smiled. "I got back last night."

"Do you need anything?"

"I came to buy a toothbrush."

Ray went and found one. "Here you go. It's on the house."

"I have the money for it-"

"Just take it," he politely cut her off. He's trying to do the right thing.

"Thanks," she stuffed it in her bag. "Can I get the key to the bathroom now?"

He retrieved the key for her. "My wife will be so glad to hear that you stopped by."

She went to the bathroom and washed up. It's back to the norm for her.

She combed her hair and put it into two braids. Then she put her sleeping cap on.

When she comes out of the bathroom she can't believe who she sees.

"Robert," she whispered. It's her step dad. "Hi." She doesn't have any thing else to say. In all the years she's known him they have never really ever spoken to each other. He occasionally curse her out or yell at her when it's convenient, but other than that nothing.

"Honey she's back here!"

Her mom comes around the corner. "Liana," she sobs when she sees her.

Liana scowls. Boo hoo save the drama for some one else who cares for it.

Her mom runs to her and gives her a hug. She doesn't hug her back. The only thing that she is happy about is the fact that she doesn't smell like alcohol.

"Baby I have missed you so much."

She pushed at her mom. "Please get your hands off of me."

She backs away and drops her arms limply to her sides. "Liana," she says softly. "I've been worried about you. I missed you."

That sad look on her mom's face doesn't even faze her. This is the face that used to get her all the time, and make her want to fall at her mom's feet and beg her not to be sad anymore. Now it just disgust her. This mask is her mother's favorite weapon of choice.
