Chapter 32: don't take me for granted

After the night from hell, Alex managed to call Lucas to find that he was still at the Scott beach house and was able to get a ride back to their house although the car ride there was very quiet and filled side glances from Lucas to his twin as he tried to work out what was the cause of her sour mood. Things for the Scott siblings didn't improve when they got home to find Nathan standing outside the door that connected to Lucas's room as he waited for them, as it turns out Alex wasn't the only Scott sibling to have a rough night with their significant other as the surprise at the dance had led Nathan and Haley to argue about her involvement with Chris Keller after he heard singing on the demo tape with him. Not wanting to be left out, Alex decided to drag her blanket and pillow from her bed in order to camp out in Lucas's bedroom since him and Nathan were having some kind of makeshift sleepover as default of Nathan avoiding going home and facing Haley after he told her about rejecting High Flyers and walking away from her. However it's fair to say that none of them really had slept that well with each of them thinking about the current state of relationships that all seemed to be in some kind of limbo. Soon the morning sunlight began to stream through Lucas's window causing them all to groan which only increased when Lucas's cell phone began to ring

" urgh, Lucas!" Alex said groaning at the sudden shrill sound of his cell phone ringing as she silently cursed whoever was calling him so early in the morning as she was immediately reminded that today was a school day despite the formal being held the night before

" come on, dude" Nathan said throwing a pillow at Lucas as he knew he wanted nothing more than to bury his head under the comfortable blankets and avoid facing the day as he thought about the day ahead of him as he wished to just be a teenager for the day

" hang on... Haley! Hey" Lucas said in surprise before looking to where Nathan was laying on the floor as he wished as his younger half brother sat up a little at hearing his wife's name as they all knew immediately why she was calling or rather who she was looking for

" Hey! I'm sorry to bother you so early, um...Nathan and I had a fight last night and he didn't come home and-" Haley said sounding tired as if she hadn't slept the night before as she took a deep breath mid sentence as she tried to contemplate what really happened last night

" I talked to him. He's OK" Lucas said deliberately being vague about his involvement with Nathan as he didn't know how much Nathan wanted her to know about his whereabouts as they all sat up and looked between themselves as they could tell that this was difficult for him

" Oh well, do you know where he is?" Haley said as she tried to mentally list all of the people that Nathan might have turned to last night for a place to stay as she knew that her next call should probably be AJ as he was Nathan's best friend since they were both little boys

" please don't tell her I'm here... please Luke" Nathan said knowing he wasn't ready to go back just yet, he knew he needed to think through a little more and have his head straight before he even thought about talking to his wife about what was going on in their marriage
