11. Food

We spoke for a few minutes and then Ghost stared off into space.

After a few minutes, he looked down at me.

"It's dinner time, isn't it?"

"Yes sir."

"Then I guess we should get going."

"Alright." I stood up and he opened the door for me.

We walked out and to the mess hall.

We got in line and picked up our trays.

"Pizza or tacos, Lieutenant?"

"What are you getting, Private?"

I was a bit taken by surprise by his question.

"I'm getting pizza."

"Pizza please."

"Here you go, sir."

"Thank you."

I got pizza and a few sides.

"Have a good dinner."

"You too, sir."

We went our separate ways.

"Everything okay?" Jay bird asked as I sat next to her.

"Surprisingly, yes."

"I was so nervous for you. I thought he was gonna kick you out of the military."

"What, why?"

"He was glaring at you the whole time. And him and Soap kept whispering to each other and looking at you."

"He asked about my family. He said he wanted to find out why I was a problem child."

"And did he figure it out?"

"I'm not a problem child! He just has it out for me!"

"That's true." She nodded. "Very true. What punishment do you think you'll get tomorrow?"

"Dish washing duty."

"Dish washing duty?"

"Dish washing duty."

"Sounds tiring."

"Can't be worse than laundry duty."

"How can you be so sure it's gonna be dish washing duty?"

"I'm not. It's just a guess." I shrugged and took a bite of my pizza.

"Wanna go to a pub tonight?"

"Huh?"

"Yeah. They're letting us out of base for a while. We have to be back by 12 though."

"I've never drank alcohol."

"Oh you innocent pure child. We're getting shit faced drunk tonight."

"Is that a good idea?"

"No. But we're gonna do it anyway."

"If you say so..."

I looked up at Ghost.

He looked away and lifted his mask over his mouth to eat his pizza.

Ghost's Pov

I looked away from YN and ate my pizza.

"So what did you guys talk about?" Johnny asked and I glanced at him.

"I asked about her family."

"Why?"

"To find out why she's always causing trouble."

"She's not causing trouble, sir, you're just finding excuses to make her work extra!" Johnny laughed.

"Maybe she shouldn't give me excuses." I took a bite of my pizza.

It's not to bad, but I would have preferred tacos.

"You are pretty brutal on her, sir." Gaz added and Price chuckled.

"It's the army, do you expect me to brush her teeth for her and tuck her into bed?" I huffed.

"No. But waiting for her to open her eyes to tase her was a bit... much." Gaz snorted.

"I'm just teaching her what real life is."

"I think you care for the girl." Soap smirked and I glared.

"Care for her? The only reason she's here is because her father who was a colonel forced her to come. She doesn't actually want to be here. She's going to die in battle if I don't push her."

"You definitely care for the girl." Soap laughed.

"How about we all go to the pub for a drink after this?" Price suggested and we all agreed.
