(Just after Diana and
Otto left to the library )

JAMES AND SIRIUS WATCHED AS DIANA RAN AWAY HOLDING HER LITTLE BROTHER'S HAND. She was finally back at Hogwarts. James knew he deserved it, he deserved for her to run away from him.

"You deserved that," Sirius said to James, shrugging as James gave him a glare. "Yes, thank you Sirius, for that great observation."

"Well, go on then, follow her you prick, don't just stand there like a moron. That woman is carrying your child, you told her you want nothing to do with the kid, now you do, you gotta make some effort prongs, c'mon now follow her to the library and talk to her." Sirius said in a matter of fact tone, James just stared at his best friend.

"When did you start growing up?" James asked Sirius, chuckling.

"When you decided not to."

---

James couldn't remember the last time he had ran to the library, it wasn't a place he visited often, unless of course Lily Evan was there. Lily Evans seems not to have been taking over his thoughts for the past month, instead they had been taken over by Diana Marlowe, which was very unexpected to James.

He began to think about the lovely girl more and more, not just as the mother of his child, but as the girl he had spent the night with. James couldn't stop thinking about how beautiful she looked, with her dark long hair, tanned complexion, a few freckles across her cheeks, and a smile that never seemed to leave her face. James knew there were a number of beautiful people at Hogwarts, including Lily Evans, but Diana was gorgeous on the inside and out, James couldn't find fault in the girl, she was an enchanting individual and James found that difficult to discover in a lot of people. Everyone had flaws, even James and the marauders, but James had never heard of any flaws in Diana; no one had a negative thing to say about her, and she captivated him and everyone around them.

Walking into the library, James noticed Diana and her brother, Otto, whom he had yet to meet, seated opposite each other on one of the long tables in the centre of the library, both working on schoolwork. James knew he needed to get to know Diana; he had no idea she had a brother, and now they were practically tied together into a sort of family; if they were to bring a child into the world, they would have to be in each other's lives, and James wanted to be there, he wanted to learn to be a man and be there for her throughout the pregnancy.

James slowly walked over to the table the two were on, not wanting to scare Diana into running away again. "Diana, hi."

Diana looked up, smiling forcefully knowing she was going to be unable to escape from the conversation james was wanting to have this time. "Hi, James." Diana turned to her brother, not wanting him to listen into the conversation James was wanting to have. "Ottie, I forgot to say i promised to talk to James about one of our projects we're doing in class, why don't I meet up with you at dinner?"

Otto looked between the two of them, 'since when did Diana know James Potter?' Otto thought to himself, before looking back at his sister. "Okay DiDi, see you later Mr Potter!" Otto said, smiling at the two before running off out of the library.

"He's a cute kid, didn't know you had a brother." James said to Diana, sitting down in the seat that Otto had just left.

"He looks up to you in a way since he's fascinated with quidditch and you're clearly the captain of the Gryffindor squad. He's the sweetest young boy; I believe my mother and I have mothered him and been overprotective of him his whole life, especially since my father died shortly after he was born. He's my brother, but he's everything to me; I can't help but feel maternal towards him; he has my mother, of course, but he missed out on a part of growing up because he didn't have a father around; it's been difficult for him." Diana told the boy opposite her, smiling sadly, thinking about her father and her little brother.

"I'm sorry Diana, I didn't know about your father."James couldn't help but feel sorry for the young boy who had just left, and he considered it further. She'd just informed him that she and her brother had actually grown up without a parent, and he was planning to abandon their child. James had grown up with two loving parents who adored their son through thick and thin, they had even taken in Sirius when he had run away from home and they were now brothers, his parents had taken him under their wing and cared for him almost as if he was their own son, and now James was going to abandon their child? The thought was eating him alive, especially because Diana and Otto had lost their father.

"It's okay, he's in a better place now, plus it was a long time ago." Diana smiled softly across at James; she didn't mind talking about her father since it made her grateful to remember the moments she had with him. Of course she had grief when thinking about loosing him; everyone grieved a loved one, but her mother had always tried to help her see it in a more positive perspective; he would not want her to be unhappy, he would want his daughter to enjoy every moment of her life.

There was a moment of silence between them, neither not quite knowing what to say next, both sat awkwardly across from one another, somewhat fiddling with their hands or not looking once another in the eye.

"H-how's everything? With the um, the pregnancy?" James said quietly, not wanting other people in the library to hear that Diana was pregnant.

Diana's hand somehow found its way down to her stomach unconciously, feeling protective. "Good, I could really do without all the morning sickness but apart from that my baby is fine."

The sound of 'my baby' made James feel guilty. She didn't say it was 'our' baby or 'the' baby; it was hers; he had told her he didn't want anything to do with the child, that he didn't want to be the father; she had accepted this, and now it was 'her' baby.

"I wanted to apologise actually, what is said, it was wrong. I understand if you want nothing to do with me ever again, I would either, but I just want a chance, to prove to you that I can be a good enough father for the baby, I-i wanna be there, for both of you. I'm just scared, but I will try, if you're willing to let me."

Diana couldn't help but think James looked like a kicked puppy; it was nice to hear him apologise, but she couldn't just let him walk all over her; she was a nice person, but she was no pushover; he needed to prove to her that he was willing, willing to be a better man for the child and a nicer person to her; after all, she was the one carrying his child.

"I understand you're scared, but i never asked for this Potter, neither of us did. You might of been scared but you're not the only one. So many men walk on women because they're 'scared' but never think if the woman is scared, we're the one pushing out the child for merlin's sake. So yes, I forgive you, because everyone deserves second chances, but you need to prove yourself before i allow you to involve yourself in the pregnancy and the baby's life. You can't just run away from things when you get scared or life gets tough, otherwise nothing is ever worth fighting for." Diana said to him as he nodded, he knew he needed to prove himself to Diana, he needed to start over.

"Can we just start again, let me reintroduce myself, I'm James Potter, your baby daddy." He smirked as Diana just laughed softly.

"I'm Diana Marlowe, you absolute moron."

Both just laughed, enjoying this very moment together, knowing this whole situation might not be as bad as it seemed.
