He had been debating using the nickname for a few hours before the facetime, he didn't know if she would've taken it well. It wasn't like some love confession or something, well he hoped it didn't come across that way because he sure as hell didn't love her, or like her, in that type of way. Obviously he loved her, but just in a friend way, just friends. But he couldn't lie about the way his heart skipped a beat when he noticed the way she went silent for a few seconds after he said it, he didn't know if he crossed a line. It was just a nickname, obviously, no bigger reason as to why he wanted a name for her that only he could use. A part of him knows it's to annoy Chester if they're ever with Ari together, to make him jealous, but he refuses to accept that.
He shouldn't be making Chester jealous with a stupid fucking nickname, it's not like Matt's going to steal his girl, it's strictly just a friendly nickname, but maybe Chester will take it differently, and lead to him backing off, because Matt does not want them together, she's too good for him. When he noticed that she went silent after he said it, he was seconds away from apologising, but then he noticed the slight red tint on her cheeks and the way she seemed to brighten afterwards, and then he continued to say it instead of her actual name for the whole facetime, and every single use of the nickname led to the same subconscious reaction from her, which just made his heart skip more beats. It was like he was addicted to the way he made her blush, and he promised to himself to never stop using that nickname if that was the reaction he'd get.
But, once again, they are strictly friends. He doesn't even like her like that.
Although, here he is, sat in his car, by himself, listening to Folklore and thinking of her. It's been a few days since that facetime, and they've facetimed every night since, it's like a routine. Even when she was having a sleepover with Sophie, they still facetimed for like an hour and all three of them just chatted about random shit. Because of the time difference, she was always getting ready for bed, and he was already in bed. Instead of his usual scroll through tiktok routine, he now facetimes her until she wants to go and watch or read something, and he goes to sleep content and happy.
Not tonight, though.
Tonight, a casual Wednesday vlog-upload-day, she has decided to facetime Chester instead. Obviously, she's let him know and apologised, and he's replied with the casual 'go talk to your man' and 'i'm not the only person you can talk to at night dw', but here he is upset in his car instead of enjoying a quick debrief of her day while watching her take her makeup off cuddled up in his bed.
