AFTER AN EXHAUSTING day, the Palm Woods' distinct glamour was starting to seep into Kimberly and Mindy's bones. Their new apartment was spacious and furnished in a style that screamed 'Hollywood.' Unpacking was a chore, but it felt like an initiation to their new life.
"That's the last box," Mindy exclaimed, wiping sweat from her brow. "Now, how about we head to the pool again? Get an actual feel of the place and make some new friends?"
Kimberly shrugged. "Why not? It'll be good to relax and soak in some sun."

WHEN THEY REACHED the palm woods pool, the familiar sight of Kendall, James, Carlos, and Logan in vibrant Hawaiian shirts caught their attention. The four were unmistakably staring at the Jennifers, the resident heartbreakers of Palm Woods.
"What's with the Hawaiian shirts?" Mindy whispered, her curiosity piqued.
Kimberly shrugged, equally intrigued. "Maybe it's a fashion statement here."
The girls quietly settled into a poolside lounger, eavesdropping on Kelly as she approached the boys. They couldn't hear the specifics, but from the boys' animated expressions and Kelly's stern demeanor, it was clear they were in for some sort of training – a boot camp, perhaps?
Despite the snooping, Kimberly couldn't help but eavesdrop somewhere else. She looked towards the entrance and noticed a familiar woman speaking to Tyler, the kid from the juice box commercial, and his mother.
The shock of recognition made Kimberly's heart race. "Why is she here?" she thought, her mind going into overdrive.
Mindy, still engrossed in observing the boys, didn't notice Kimberly's growing anxiety. "I bet it's some kind of prep for whatever project Gustavo roped them into," she whispered, theorizing about the boys.
Kimberly, however, was too lost in her thoughts to respond. She put her sunglasses on, trying to hide her eyes and praying she wouldn't be recognized.

ANASTASIA KRAMER was someone Kimberly hadn't seen in a long time. To see her mother again, at the Palm Woods of all places, was the last thing she expected.
She remembered the arguments, and the shouting matches that usually ended with her mother storming out of the room. They had different visions of life, and their estrangement was a testament to that.
As Anastasia laughed at something Tyler's mom said, Kimberly felt resentment. Why was she here? Was it a coincidence, or was there more to it?
Mindy, finally picking up on her friend's distraction, nudged Kimberly. "You okay?"
