Chapter 5

Nathan raced down the road, music blaring in his ears as he focused on his breathing. Spotting something ahead of him, a grin formed as he pushed himself to catch up. "Hey," he called out, then frowned when they didn't respond.

Quickly reaching their sides, realization hit him when he saw the earbud in her ear. She jumped in surprise and slowed her running to a stop. She opened her mouth then shut it. Inhaling, she held it for a few seconds then slowly let it out, she opened her mouth again then covered her face with her hands.

"Hey, it's okay," Nathan grinned as he pointed to the portable bowl on Zeus' vest, "Can I?" She nodded, watching in through the gaps of her fingers as he knelt down and pulled the collapsable bowl from her dog's vest and poured his water into it. "I didn't know you ran." She nodded again, "I love it, it feels freeing doesn't it?" Once again she nodded. "It's not very safe for you to run with both earbuds in though," he frowned, "you can't hear anyone coming up to you." She pointed to Zeus and he chuckled, "So he didn't attack me because I'm your friend?"

Her mouth dropped as she slowly lowered her hands, she tilted her head slightly and his smirk grew even larger at how adorable she was being right now. She thought about it for a few minutes then nodded shyly. "Great, I like being your friend, Peanut." Her eyes squinted in confusion making him chuckle, "You're so tiny." She covered her face again and turned away from him. "Hey come here," he smirked, "I'll quit teasing you even though you're being adorable." They started walking together in silence and she found it to be relaxing, it wasn't awkward like she thought it would be.

Her phone started ringing so she pulled it out of her pocket. "Hey Momma, two seconds, I'm on my way to my next class," Salem said hurriedly, "I forgot to tell you, we need groceries, the guys and I used the last of the milk and eggs this morning and we're low on snacks too. Oh we're walking home too so no need to pick us up. Crap, there's the teacher, love you."

She hung up the phone and turned to face Nathan. "Can I take you please, Peanut?" he asked. He raised his hand and pointed to the driveway that they had stopped at when she got the phone call. "That's our place." Her mouth dropped when she realized that they were in front of the gate that led up to the mansion that was in the distance surrounded by trees and he chuckled, "Yeah, we're the ones that bought the place. We didn't know that we lived close by until Aurora insisted on watching the boys skate home to make sure they got home safe. She got onto them when she found out that they were skating without their helmets." Rose rolled her eyes, "They promised her that they would from now on. It's funny how she already has them wrapped around her little finger. You're raising some damn good boy, Peanut." She blushed and looked down at her shoes. "So anyway," he smirked, "Can I take you two to the store? It will be fun to hang out with you some more."

She bit her lower lip nervously then pointed to her body, "You don't have to change, I'll grab you a shirt." She took a deep breath of courage and nodded, liking how his face lit up. He punched in the code and wrapped his arm around her shoulders as he led her to the mansion.

He quickly grabbed one of his shirts and handed it to her while he grabbed his car keys. He knew it was wrong but when she wasn't looking he quickly took a photo of her standing in front of one of the windows looking out towards the yard with Zeus sitting beside her. She was simply breathtaking.

"Come on," he said as he opened the door to his car. "Get in you two."

Realizing that the car was low on gas, he pulled into the gas station. Since she had lowered the window halfway, he stuck his hand on the glass while he was pumping the gas. He briefly wondered if it was because the tint on his window was dark and she wanted to be able to see him. He hoped that was the case because he really liked spending time with him. Seeing someone walking towards them, she reached up and grabbed the two fingers that were currently tapping on the glass, making his ring on his middle finger clink. He didn't look away from the stranger that was talking to him but he did reach in a little more so she could hold his whole hand. The stranger kept talking to him and he gave her a small squeeze. After a few more minutes the person walked away and Nathan heard the click that let him know the gas tank was full. He put the nozzle away and took the receipt, shoving it in his pocket.

"Sorry about that, Peanut," Nathan smirked as he pulled his hand away so he could get in the car. Once he started driving he reached over and took her hand, resting it on his thigh. "Alright off to the store."

He walked beside her as they started to walk down an aisle. Just as she was reaching for some cereal, an employee approached them, "I'm sorry but no pets are allowed in the store."

"He's not a pet, he's a service dog," Nathan growled as his phone started ringing. "One second Marc," he huffed in annoyance.

"Oh shit, what's going on?" Marc asked putting the phone on speaker since the rest of the family was with him.

"Emotional support dogs are not service dogs," the lady said in annoyance as Rose tensed up.

"He's not an emotional support dog, he is a certified service dog," Nathan growled. "They are allowed to enter any premise with their owner."

"Animals are not allowed in this grocery store, Sir," the woman tried to argue.

"You need to learn the law," Nathan glared at her, "According to the federal ADA law, my wife's service dog is allowed to enter any public building with her, that overrules your store's rules. If you keep harassing us then I have every right to sue not only you but the store as well. In fact, where is your manager, I want to speak to them now."

"Well, I was going to ask you to pick up a few things for us from the store but never mind," Marc chuckled. "You lucky bastard oh and by the way, Owen is on his way."
