Mia's Pov

I watched as Ryan's gray and white fur disappeared within the distance, I glanced over at Reed, my nose twitched.

"What?" He growled, I frowned.

"What?"

"Why did you send Ryan away? What do you want?" He growled.

Ah.

He didn't trust me almost as much as I didn't trust him, but I was certain I didn't like him more.

"You know, why don't you just leave?" I asked, as I began to pick at my nails.

His growl deepened, "What do you mean leave?"

I frowned, "Can't you see you're the root of the problem? We wouldn't need to be spying if you hadn't shown up in the first place, now Ryan's in constant danger, and he's not comfortable in his own pack."

I glanced at his growing fangs, I backed away a little.

"You're the problem." He growled, I scowled, "I wouldn't need to be here if you kept trying to convince Ryan to stay."

I felt my own canines extend, "Convince? He didn't want to leave in the first place! He didn't want to go with you!"

Reed stood up, "What? You think you could be with him? You think you're good enough?" He leaned down close to my ear, "You'll never be good enough. Not for anybody, and especially not for Ryan."

I moved back again, I felt nervous, the air was starting to get suffocating, "And you are?"

"You don't suit him, you could never compare to me," Reed growled, "Don't let your curiosity kill you." He turned around and began to walk off.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, "Do you think you're good enough?"

He stopped and turned around.

"You're the reason why his life is so miserable right now," I took a step forward, "You're the reason he's in danger"

I stared him in the eyes, "Ryan will never be safe with you."

His growl got louder before he shifted entirely, I took a few steps back before I shifted and ran closer to the house, but I couldn't make distance between us.

He let out a loud howl, catching the attention of everyone around the pack house.

Including Ryan, who I saw quickly came back to see what was going on, his ears were pinned down against his head.

People around stood still as we both stood in the clearing.

Nobody moved.

It seemed nobody was even breathing.

Reed turned away from me, and to my surprise, turned towards Ryan.

In a flash he was off of me and on top of Ryan.

Ryan's yelp rang through the air as Reed's teeth sunk into the flesh on his side, I scrambled to my feet and bolted after Reed.

Ryan quickly got to his paws and tried to flee, only to have Reed push him down to the ground once more.

I launched myself onto Reeds back and attempted to sink my teeth into his neck, only to be stopped by a thick coat of glossy fur, which almost made it hard to keep my balance.

Reed turned his head to snap at me.

One wolf attempted to bite Reed's leg, but it resulted in Reed sinking his teeth into their jugular and pulling.

Blood splattered out of their wound as they fell limp to the ground.

I panicked.

What are you doing?!

My heart thundered against my chest, I was scared.

People finally moved, Reed let go of Ryan and bolted away from the scene.

Wolves I haven't seen before walked out of the pack house, but by their scent I could remember who they were.

The alpha and his beta.

Ryan laid on his side, his breathing sounded shallow, blood poured from the wound in his side and he wore a few noticeable scratches.

Ryans father approached, I quickly got to Ryans side before he could, I let out a soft growl.

Ryan winced as I attempted to lick a large cut he had obtained in the short fight.

His father hadn't shifted, it made me wonder if he would have attempted to fight Reed at all to save his son.

Ryans father looked similar to Ryan, I wanted to bite him.

He poked Ryan's shoulder, but Ryan didn't move.

"Ryan? Can you get up?" He asked, I was handed a pair of loose fitting clothes and quickly changed into them, and another for Ryan.

"How caring of you," i snapped at him, pushing him out the way, I ran my hand across Ryan's face.

Ryan shifted back and slipped the clothes on, he gazed off in the distance, "I kinda just wanna go home..." he muttered without meeting anyone's gaze.

I leaned down and picked him up, I expected him to fight against it, but he didn't, he just turned his head in a way to not be seen by the public eye.

Ryan's Pov

The usual embarrassment I would have felt from being picked up so easily was easily overcome by feeling of dread I felt in my heart.

I buried my face into Mia's shoulder, my side pulsed and I felt blood pour from it, despite the fact that it had been covered up a few moments prior.

It seemed to take forever for us to reach my house, Mia set me down upstairs, she tucked her light colored hair behind her ears.

"Are you...okay?" She asked slowly, the sudden question for some reason made me want to cry.

"He... bit me..." i mumbled, "He...he attacked me..."

Mia's face softened, "Ryan, you can trust people like him, this is what'll happen if you stay with him...."

I turned my head away and closed my eyes shut to prevent the tears I felt rising.

"Ryan, he can't control himself, you saw how easily he'd get rid of everyone else, what makes you think he'd treat you differently?" Mia's facial expression was gentle, but her words were anything but.

"No... he wouldn't...he, he said he wouldn't..." my voice sounded hoarse, my volume got lower and lower, to the point where I questioned if Mia could hear me.

She brought her face closer to mine, so that her forehead touched against mine, her gentle smell of honeysuckle seemed to envelop my senses.

"I can help you," she whispered softly, "but you need to let me..." she brushed my hair back behind my ears, "I...I don't think I can't take him on by myself... but, I swear I'll help you Ryan..."

She got a bit closer, part of me wanted to lean into her, this was what I wanted.

Mia was pretty, she cared about me, she was gentle, she talked to me, she was there for me, we could have a stable home, we could raise a family together.

My heart squeezes against my ribcage.

But right now, all I wanted to do was be embraced by Reed.

I slowly turned my head away from Mia, confusion flickered against her gentle blue eyes.

"..Ryan?"

I turned my gaze towards the ground, "...Sorry..."

Mia didn't say anything, but after a few moments of silence, she left the room.
