Today i begin letting go.


I am letting go 


of the staircase,
where we fell in love.


I am letting go


of the pinecones
you painted blue.


I am letting go


of the hurt you gave me.


I am letting go 



of the love you gave me.


I am letting go 



of the person i fell in love with
that died.


I am letting go



of the friendship bracelet you gave me.


I am letting go



of loving you.


I am letting go



of the birthday cards 
you gave me.


I am letting go



of the comments you made about
my friends.


I am letting go



of the things you've probably said behind my back.


I am letting go


of heather.


I am letting go


of remembering every detail.


I am letting go



of everything.





And she is everything. 





I refuse to hurt you
like you hurt me.


And i refuse
to ever, ever say anything negative about you.


I refuse
to find comfort in being hurt


even if the hurt is from you.


I will listen to heather
one last time
And i will look at the things you gave me
one last time
And i will sing the songs i wrote for you
one last time
And publish my last poem about you
one last time.
And on June 28th
I'm going to burn it.


Every note you've passed me
Every page of ranting
Every text message 
Every poem,
Every song.


I'm going to burn 
everything.

And one day 
I will let go




and i will forget.
