Jungkook

-One month ago-

I have always had an inexplicable distaste for men wearing suits. The same old classic cuts and contemporary fabrics, perfectly knotted ties, and crisply pressed shirts. A silent oath to utmost excellence.

Can't say it's something personal. Don't even have solid arguments for it. It's just a preference, backed up by the image of refined elegance they aim to instill.

Either that or the fact that all men in powerful positions wear their sartorial armor like a second skin. A manifestation of their identity. A slap in the face of casual indifference. Their choice is not fashion-related, but a declaration of higher standards.

"Oh, there is a stain on your tie," I point it and my lawyer averts his gaze instantly.

"Shit," he searches for a tissue, "It's from my fourth coffee. Or fifth. I lost count."

He laughs and sits across from me.

Logan is a really nice guy, and on him, suits don't look like a power move. Could be due to his brave and straightforward personality that doesn't need to kiss any judge's ass to win. Not that I have much of a choice, but I trust him more than the others. He would be my third lawyer.

Wasn't my choice to change him either, but he reached out to me. His portfolio was impressive but so were those of my previous lawyers. However, Logan is a specialized drug offense attorney and that gave me more hope.

"How are the sessions?"

"Less uncomfortable," I answer honestly and he smirks.

"Exactly what I wanted to hear."

Soon after the Christmas holidays, he called me, telling me he was interested in taking my case. Might have been due to his experience or my desperation, but it didn't take him much to convince me.

We clicked right away and he shed a new light on my situation.

"You're going to win, Jungkook, because you are a victim," He told me convincingly, "I studied your file and I was disappointed with the remarks made by your past lawyers. It's like you were hiring amateurs."

I mean, what the fuck did I know?

I looked for someone old enough to know how things work and who can still fit into my budget. Logan is out of my league. I let him know the moment he showed interest. He didn't care about it.

"We'll think about it later. It doesn't matter to me if it will take you ten years to pay me back. What's important is not to spend those ten years in prison." He had a good point. Actually, he had more good points. "Before anything else, I will suggest psychological therapy. Counseling, if you prefer. And starting today if possible. You got involved as a minor and continued as an adult in illegal businesses but only forced by a corrupt system. While Korean laws are strict regarding drug sales, the system failed to protect you. You are a victim, Jungkook. You are a victim. By the time of the initial appearance, which will happen in a month, therapy will not only address your stress, anxiety, and anger management issues, but it might serve as mitigation evidence in court. It can explain your mental state, emotional struggles, and past traumas, which can be relevant to sentencing and decisions about appropriate interventions."
