22. Torn Allegiences

Elijah breaks up with Damon because of Klaus. 

The Salvatore Boarding House had never felt so empty as it did the day Elijah Mikaelson ended his relationship with Damon Salvatore. The decision had been heart-wrenching, the weight of it heavy in his chest, but he couldn't bear the thought of Klaus's threats becoming a reality. He had to protect those he loved, even if it meant breaking Damon's heart.

As the words left his lips, Damon's world shattered. He stood there, his eyes filled with a mix of disbelief and betrayal, unable to comprehend what had just happened. "Why, Elijah? Why are you doing this?" he cried, his voice laced with pain.

Elijah couldn't bring himself to meet Damon's gaze, the guilt of his decision a heavy burden. "I can't explain, Damon," he said, his voice trembling. "I wish things were different, but I have to protect you, my family, and everyone I care about."

Damon watched helplessly as Elijah walked away, the pain of their separation gnawing at his heart. He felt abandoned, betrayed, and utterly shattered.
