"Are you sure this is a good car?" I said, surveying the sleek black Chevy Ave standing before me, my arms crossed in contemplation. Calum had brought me to a small, unassuming used car dealership just outside of LA, where a variety of cars was displayed.

Calum's fingers danced across his phone screen.

You just did a test drive in it and said it was a nice car I read off his screen.

I sighed, my gaze drifting back to the vehicle. It was true; I had just taken it for a spin around the block, and it had performed admirably. The engine was responsive, the interior was clean, and it had all the features I needed. But, the idea of committing to a car, especially after using public transportation for so long, left me feeling a bit apprehensive. And to be honest; the traffic in LA was different than what I was used to in Boston. It's scary.

I turned to Calum, a hint of doubt still in my eyes. "I know, I know," I said, biting my lower lip as I considered the implications of this decision. It was a significant purchase, and I wanted to make sure it was the right one.

Calum typed on his phone again before once again turning it to me. Trust me, this car is perfect for you. It's affordable, reliable, and it'll give you the freedom to go wherever you want. Plus, I know a thing or two about cars in case you need help.

I let out a chuckle. "Since when do you know how cars work? Do you have any more secret talents you want to share with the class?"

While I knew Calum was a man of many talents, I had never heard him talk extensively about cars. Calum gave me a sly grin, clearly enjoying my disbelief. He took a step closer and typed on his phone once more.

I don't kiss and tell.

I let out another small chuckle before I turned back to the black Chevy Ave. "Okay, I think I'll get this car," I said, feeling a sense of excitement mixed with a touch of nervousness. Calum's face lit up with a proud smile, and he gave me a reassuring nod. He seemed genuinely pleased with my choice. With the decision made, we headed back into the dealership to start the paperwork. Calum's presence made the process much smoother, and I was grateful for his help and expertise.

The drive back to LA in my own car had me feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Calum led the way in his own car, and I followed closely behind, tracing his path to the parking lot near our apartment. Once we both parked side by side, I hopped out of the car, locking the door behind me.

"I think I shall name him Scooby," I said, smiling at my new ride.

Calum raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into an amused grin. "Hey, don't judge!" I playfully defended my choice of name.

He chuckled, shaking his head. Scooby it is then. Welcome to the family, Scooby he signed before he walked over and gave me a quick kiss.

As we were walking to our apartment, I couldn't help but think of the morning I woke up in his bed, after our first time. The feeling the warmth of his body against mine. His eyes were closed as he slept, his peaceful expression a stark contrast to the harsh reality of the fights he kept hidden. It was in that quiet moment, as the morning sun painted the room with its soft glow, that I noticed the faint but unmistakable bruises on his ribs.

My heart ached with concern, and I couldn't help but trace the outline of the bruises with my fingertips, my touch gentle and loving. The knowledge of his fights resurfaced, and the weight of his secret bore down on me once again. I knew there was a darkness he was shielding me from, and I couldn't help but wonder what would happen when the truth finally came to light. As Calum began to stir awake, I couldn't stop my gaze from lingering on the bruises. The turmoil within me intensified. I wanted to ask, to confront him, to understand, but the fear of pushing him away kept me silent - Calum's eyes finally opened, and he offered me a warm morning smile, oblivious to the thoughts racing through my mind. He pulled me closer, pressing a tender kiss to my forehead.
