Chapter Twenty-Nine
Splitting Up To Save London

*---*---*---*---*---*---*---*---*---*

After a little while of walking and dead silence, they arrived opposite the Battersea Power Station. Things were still tense, especially between Mickey and Jake. Jake refused to even glance in Mickey's direction and Mickey was fighting not to break down and cry again. The Doctor, Emma, Rose, and eventually Mickey stopped atop a hill overlooking the river, and on the other side was a very noticeable building emitting black smoke.

"The whole of London's been sealed off, and the entire population's been taken inside that place," the Doctor said. "To be converted."

"We have to find a way inside and shut it all down," Emma stated.

"How do we do that?" Mickey asked, trying to move on like the Doctor had told them to.

"Oh, I'll think of something," the Doctor assured.

"You're just making this up as you go along," Mickey accused in slight disbelief.

"Yep," the Doctor agreed. "But I do it brilliantly."

Emma grinned, looking at her Doctor who winked back at her. It was moments like these that kept them sane despite everything else that was happening around them. Just a minute or two, even a few seconds. It meant the world, especially to the Doctor. Mickey couldn't help but silently agree and Rose smiled too.

There was a bench nearby, and Moore sat down on it with her laptop open in her lap. She was searching different things within Cybus Industry to try and figure out how they were going to proceed in their mission of saving London. On top of the bench, the Doctor and Emma sat down on either side of the woman. Rose and Mickey tried to catch a glance of the schematic while Jake, John, and Pete just lingered behind them.

"That's a schematic of the old factory. Look," Moore pointed out. "Cooling tunnels underneath the plant. Big enough to walk through."

"We go under there and up into the control center?" the Doctor asked.

"Mmm," Moore hummed and nodded.

"There's another way in," Pete interrupted. "Through the front door. If they've taken Jackie and Mary for upgrading, that's how they'll get in."

"We can't just go strolling up," Jake protested.

"Or we could, with these," Moore said and unzipped the backpack she brought with her. "Fake earpods. Dead. No signal. But put them on, the Cybermen would mistake you for one of the crowd."

"Then that's what I'll be doing," John stated.

"And me," Pete added.

"You'd have to show no emotion. None at all," the Doctor warned them. "Any sign of emotion would give you away."

"I'm good at no emotions," Emma commented. "How many of those fake earpods have you got?"

"About four sets," Moore answered.

"Okay, if that's the best way of getting inside," Emma said. "We can find Jackie and Mary too while we're at it."

"I'm going too," Rose said, her tone definite.

"Rose," Emma looked at her best friend warningly. "I'm going so you don't have to."

She wanted to take the chance before Rose could but of course the blonde was stubborn. Even if Emma didn't have her angel abilities, she still knew how to fight and defend herself. She was a hunter, after all. She'd protect this reality's Pete Tyler and John Winchester but she should have known better. Rose might've just been human with no skillset whatsoever, but she was defiant and strong-willed. There was no saying no to her.
