Screams.
My ears were echoing with the screams of the villagers, their homes crashing to the ground as fire burned them. All I could do was sit there, my mouth hung open, my eyes were wide as if I had just seen a ghost— actually, no.. this is much worse..
The sky was scarlet red, smoke twisting around like a dark shadow above the village.. Houses, shops, the library, stands, et— were all in flames, blazing hot fire covering them and crisping them into ash, burning what held them up, making them crash, some even falling down onto people. The only noise I could hear were screams and yells, people begging for help and praying to the Gods and Buddha. I worked up a gulp, my throat ached, like when you cry. I was too shocked. I was too shocked to scream, to cry, to beg for help or to pray to the gods, all I could do was sit in the grass with my jaw hanging down like a noose. I was deep, not even in thought, I wasn't spaced out.. atleast I didn't think so..? I just.. I couldn't do anything. I felt hopeless. However, a yell that belonged to my dear elder sister, broke me free of my trance. "Shinobu! Hurry, you'll get burned!" My sister, Kanae said. She grabbed me by the arm and pulled me up, slightly shaking me as she also noticed the strange trance I was in. "Shinobu! We have to leave!" she shouted right into my face, I began to rapidly blink, batting my eyes as I was now swayed out from that mysterious trance. I looked into her eyes, they used to be so calm.. and now, they were wide with panic. "I-..o-okay!" I shouted back, trying to be louder than the screams sorrounding us. She pulled me away, running with my wrist locked in her hand. "Are Kanao and Aoi okay!?" I thought, I was terrified.. if anything were to happen to those girls, I just.. I don't know what I'd be able to do..!
I didn't know where Kanae was leading me, I felt my feet beat the cobblestone roads as we ran, one of my shoes had slipped off, one of my feet was bruised and dirty, and I winced as I felt a small burning on it, "Damnit!" I thought. A roof of a tall building slid off, crashing down next to us, we both let out a scream of shock and fear, we'd be lucky to make it out alive. But what about Aoi and Kanao!?
Groups of people pushed by us as we ran, screams and shrieks blaring into my ears, I felt like I was going deaf! Kanae's grasp on my wrist only got tighter and tighter, numbing my arm a little, while she held onto my wrist, I did the same with Aoi who was holding Kanao. Suddenly, another crash was heard behind us, I turned my head, only to see a fallen over building, blocking us and many others from going the other direction. I heard the screams of the villagers, the cries of babies and children, the shrieks of animals who were being left to die in the flames. I shut my eyes tightly, trusting Kanae to lead my way, I just wanted to cry. My head hurt, my stomach ached, my throat burned, why.. How did this even happen!?
