No sooner had we settled into the reed than the rain intensified and became very violent. Its drumming against the reed wall was muffled by the pulp, but many were very frightened.

Then the thunder increased again. It came closer and stayed above our heads. The pulp of the reed wasn't enough to dampen its violence. We huddled together. Some had their hands pressed against their ears.

Great cracks were heard under the reed, as if the earth were splitting in two.

I went to find an Elder and, with some others, we went from one end of our reed to the other to check that all was well. Little children screamed in terror. Old men lay dazed on their beds.

We brought comfort to one and all.

A whole day passed without respite.

The elders, through their kopavi, know the time of day. We were able to perform the evening rituals.

Finally, despite thedin, I fell asleep against Chosposi's warm body.
