AN: Happy Valentine's Day my lovelies!
I'll be spending some of today getting a blood test done then hopefully having some time with the love of my life Leon (replaying RE4R for the millionth time😂).I hope you all have a great day regardless of whether you celebrate or not, and remember that loving yourself is just as important as loving someone else!
I wanted to write something soft and fluffy since lately there's been a lot of angst, so here's some adorable RE2R Leon being a cutie pie ♡
---------------------------------------------------------
Leon POV:
Valentine's Day has never been on my radar. I mean, I know about it, and yearly see couples being all romantic and cheesy, but I've never had a true chance to get involved. Sure I've had precious relationships, but oddly enough none have ever lasted until this weird holiday.
The day seems usual for me as I buy my morning coffee on the way to work, I choose to ignore the numerous cuddling couples and fancy Valentine's cupcakes, but end up buying a heart shaped cookie just because it looks sugary. When I get to the RPD, I get changed into my uniform then head to the office, where I'm due to finish off some reports Lieutenant Branaugh set me up with. By the time I've reached my desk I'm more than ready to just get on with things, but when I sit down and finally take notice of my desk, I see something that wasn't there last night.
A Valentine's Day card.
I look around, half expecting the other cops to laugh at me or point fingers, admitting they set me up or felt bad for me since most are happily married, but nothing happens. I stare at it for longer than necessary, wondering if I should pretend I didn't see it, but inevitably the cop inside of me wants to investigate, so I open it up, leaning forward to hide the view of me reading it, I guess I'm stil half ready for a prank to be pulled.
'Call the police, you stole my heart!' Reads from inside, and next to it is a drawing of a police car with red hearts surrounding it. A small smile lifts my lips as I stare at it, inside I'm laughing at the ridiculous wordplay, it's so...me.
There's no obvious signatures, only 'from your secret admirer'. I frown, wondering who the heck did this and why they didn't put their name, but then again from the various cheesy romance movies I've seen, today's all about the mystery and yearning. I look at it for a beat longer before stuffing it into my drawer, hiding it from the other cops until I can secretly sneak it into my bag and take it home.
Y/N POV:
I watch from the other side of the office as Leon spots the card I got for him, adding my own design inside since all the cards I saw in the store were basic and too serious. He doesn't know it's from me since I didn't sign my name, but a part of me hopes he'll figure it out, since not many people get his sense of humour like I do. The way he smiles at his has my heart doing a flip, and I almost giggle at the faint blush dusting his cheeks, but then he clears his throat and stuffs it into his drawer, keeping my secret exactly that, a secret.
I cough, making my presence known, then head towards his desk, hiding my true emotions I settle for a polite smile as I sit down at my desk, which is right next to Leon's, because of course the cops would sic the two rookies together. Leon joined shortly after me, so we kind of immediately clicked and bonded over our newness and learning together. It helps that we have a lot of things in common too, and spend way too much time talking about movies instead of doing work. Branaugh hasn't caught us yet though.
"Hey Y/N, is your day just as normal as mine?" Leon jokes, arching a brow. He's acting odd, trying to cover up his still lingering shock.
I shrug cluelessly, "Nothing new happening here. Why, did something happen?"
Leon's eyes widen a little, then he shakes his head, forcing a wide smile. "Nah, just more paperwork than usual." He dismisses, then grabs his pen and begins working. I watch out of the corner of my eye, heart a little deflated at his reaction, but then again if I wanted thanks and attention I would've signed my name.
Eventually though, Leon breaks down. His focus on the work dissipates as his gaze travels back and forth to the drawer, then finally with a sigh he sets down his pen and pulls out the card, eyes narrowing as he scans it looking for clues. I bite my lip to keep from grinning as he studies it, sniffing it to find a trace of, what, perfume?
"Hmmm," I hum, finally chirping in, "Looks like you've got a secret admirer."
Leon nods, not bothering to hide the card like he did earlier. I guess the need to know who it's from is stronger than his need to keep it a secret. "Yeah, but I've got no idea who it's from, which is a little irritating since I want to thank them, and maybe ask them out."
My eyes widen as my breath hitches, but I cover it with a cough. "Ask them out?" I repeat in question. Leon nods, brows furrowing as if it's an obvious move.
"Yeah. I've been in Raccoon City for almost a year now and I think I'm ready to take the cover off the dating pool and dive in, you know?" He murmurs, scratching the back of his neck.
My heart really does skip a beat now I've got official confirmation that Leon's ready to date, but I still have some hesitations. What if he wants to date, but doesn't want to date me? We get along fine, but maybe he'd rather us stay friends? What if this is all wrong and I've made a terrible mistake? I mentally slap myself, it's Valentine's Day, the day of love and risking it all for romance. But I'm not making it easy for the man.
"That's good to hear. Maybe we can work on this case together, figuring out who wrote the card?" I ask, attempting to look as innocent as can be. Leon buys it, and passes me the card I only wrote last night. I pretend to look at it, then hold it up to the light for good measure. "Well this person is obviously funny."
"Yeah, they seem to get me." Leon agrees.
"And they knew you'd be here today, so they've gotta be part of the force too."
"Maybe."
"They're decent at drawing, I think, I mean it looks okay, not terrible or anything." I ramble, but Leon's staring at me instead of the card. I pass it back, both of us silent as I wonder why his eyes are glued to mine, but then...no, he can't have figured it out this fast?!
"I knew I'd seen those hearts before." He mumbles, looking down at the sticky notes on my desk, where lo and behold, there's a bunch of hearts next to some of my notes. My mouth drops, then it closes.
"No way! The person has been doodling on my stuff too?" I feign shock, but we both know the act has passed and the truth is out. Leon's mouth curves up as I panic, but then he's quiet and goes back to his work.
I sit still, staring down at my desk. Oh god, he knows but didn't say anything? What does that mean?
Suddenly his finger pokes my arm, then he slides me a piece of paper. It says;
'Will you be my Valentine?
Yes or No.'I can't contain my smile as I grab my pen and circle 'yes' then slide it back to him.
He grins, "So, I guess I should ask if you want to go out with me sometime? If you're not busy we could do something tonight?"
"Yeah, I'd love to. Maybe a movie and dinner?"
Leon chuckles, agreeing to it. Then stands up, holding out a hand to help me up. "Lunch first?"
I take his hand and let him pull me up, then we head to the break room, hand in hand as we resume our usual conversation, but this time as Valentine's instead of friends.
