AN:I had a lovely person request an imagine where reader has a panic attack during an outbreak, and Leon, her boyfriend, supports her and protects her throughout it all.
There weren't any other details requested, so I decided to change things up for suspense and write it so Leon's been a cop for a little while and they've both been living in Raccoon City pre-outbreak
Hopefully it's okay and you all enjoy this kind of AU imagine ♡
---------------------------------------------------------Just a quick note, I've got a lot of requests on the go, so if you ask for an imagine just be aware it'll take around 5 to 7 days before it's published!
---------------------------------------------------------
I'm in the strange state of sleep where I'm not quite awake, but not fully passed out either, it's like my body knows something my mind doesn't, kind of like how you get that prickling feeling when somebody is watching you. I'm aware of my cheek pressed against Leon's chest, his arms wrapped around me as he lightly snores, but other than that, I can't figure out why I'm almost awake-
A massive explosion like sound rocks the apartment building. I sit up, heart thumping a million miles per hour as Leon darts out of bed, blue eyes already wide open and searching for a threat. I'm shaking, the sudden shock too much for me to handle. "What was that?" I worriedly ask, already getting out of bed and changing my clothes, slipping on yesterday's outfit. I'm midway through lacing up my shoes when the fire alarm begins going off.
My lip wobbles as panic consumes me. Leon and I have been living in Raccoon City for about two years now, and there's never been any serious incidents like this. This already feels like a disaster awaiting to be revealed.
"We need to get out of here." Leon says, looking tense as he shrugs on a jacket over his clothes, then he grabs my hand after reaching for his phone. "I don't know what's going on."
I follow Leon, he seems to be much calmer than I am, probably since he's used to intense situations like these. His fingers are tight around mine as we head to the front door of our apartment, ready to escape and find out what's happening, but as soon as Leon reaches for the handle a massive bang hammers from the other side.
We both jump back, I let out a yelp as Leon stands in front of me, as if to protect me from this maniac. I swallow despite having a dry throat, the aggressive thump comes again, it's like someone is throwing themselves at the door. Leon's brows draw together in concern, but he doesn't make any moves to open the door even though the fire alarm is still blaring.
"It could be someone who needs help." I suggest, but both of us aren't so sure. Leon takes a breath, then looks to me one last time in warning, so I step back as he opens the door.
It all happens so fast. A disfigured and burnt person comes running in, all growls and heavy groans as it throws itself at Leon. I cry out, already rushing forwards as Leon holds the stinky figure at bay, the smell of burnt flesh filling what was once a clean and fresh apartment. "No!" Leon yells as he struggles, "Stay back! He's dangerous!"
I stop, legs ready to give way from how terrified I feel. I think of an idea, then run into the bedroom, grabbing Leon's gun. When I get back to Leon, he's lying on his back, the figure chomping on air as it squirms on him. "Use this!" I shout, sliding the gun across the floor. Leon catches it, then aims it at the figures shoulder, then he pulls the trigger, shooting a chunk of flesh from the arm. The figure doesn't seem to care, it's ravenous and insane.
"Jesus Christ!" Leon curses, then aims for the head, but in my desperation I've grabbed a plant pot and launch it at the figure, hitting it in the head. It rolls off of Leon, giving him time to kneel up and aim the gun again as the figure gets up, then it sprints to Leon, but this time he shoots it in the head, watching with shock as it falls to the floor dead.
Tears line my eyes, but we can't stay here. Leon looks pale, but he moves into action. He stands, coming over to me and cupping my face, eyes searching mine, then he tries to speak, but it's gargled. He tries again, clearly more traumatised than he's letting on. "We can't stay here. It's not safe. We'll take the fire exit, and take the small alleyway. Okay?"
I nod, mind going into a state of numbness as I just let Leon take charge. He grabs my hand and leads me out of the apartment, then we run past other crazy people, dodging bodies and flames from a series of fires in the apartments. I think I'm crying, but I can't be sure. When we finally get outside, life isn't much better. It's absolute chaos and destruction. People scream and run. Other bloody bodies attack each other. Windows from shops are shattered. Smoke fills the air.
"Quick, this way!" Leon urgently orders, pulling me down the alleyway. We run and run until the sound of death and carnage is behind us. In a split second decision Leon tests the handle of a store, a bookshop. It's open, so Leon tugs me inside, shutting the door behind us and locking it before then moving to the blinds, drawing them closed until we're in near darkness, apart from the street light peeking through the gap.
I make my way to the counter, then slide down, hidden from view. I finally begin to hyperventilate, breath coming fast and hands shaking as I run my fingers through my hair. Leon appears seconds later, hair dishevelled and a steak of blood on his cheek. He kneels down, taking my hands in his as he leans in, pressing his forehead to mine.
"I know. I know." He coos, "I'm fucking terrified too, but we need to keep quiet and calm down. Take some deep breaths with me baby." He begins taking deep breaths, and I follow, using his as a guide. His hand moves to my cheek when I don't calm down, his thumb stroking my cheekbone. "We're okay here for a bit, and I won't let anything get to you."
I shake my head, refusing to believe it. "Monsters. We're gonna die." I gasp, a sob escaping me.
Leon's jaw clenches, as if the thought of something happening to me is unbearable. "No, I swear you're safe with me. They don't know we're in here. I'm gonna call the police department, see if I can find out what's going on. Okay?"
Leon grabs his phone, sitting down next to me and wrapping an arm around my shoulders as I shudder, but begin to process everything that's happened so far. I hear Leon's phone ring and ring, but nobody ever picks up. He curses, then slips it back into his pocket, giving me a grim look.
"We've gotta try and get to the RPD, it'll be safer than here, and we might get some answers."
"I can't." I shake my head, already preparing my arguments, but then Leon presses a finger over my lips, frowning at a noise I can't here.
"MOVE!" He yells, grabbing my arm and yanking me up, dragging me across the store then wrapping his arms around me, diving to the ground just as a car crashes into the store, right where we were sitting mere moments ago. "Fuck. Are you hurt? Can you move?" Leon asks, rolling off of me, his hands touching my body as he checks for injuries. I'm fine thanks to Leon, who risked his own life to save mine. At this moment, I know he'll die for me, and whilst I'm not safe, Leon will do everything to keep me alive.
"Let's get to the RPD." I mumble, taking Leon's hand as I stand up. The groans of the monsters, which I'm beginning to think are the undead, begin to follow us. Without hesitation Leon grabs his gun and takes my hand once more, leading me to the back exit.
We continue our survival through the city, until we finally reach the gates of the RPD. After rushing in and closing them behind us, Leon pauses, turning to me and wrapping his arms around me, his chin resting on the top of my head. "I promise I'll protect you with my life. I don't know what's going to happen tonight, but I know that I love you so much, and nothing will ever take you away from me."
"I love you too Leon, I trust you and know you'll keep us safe, because your life matters just as much as mine." I reply, swallowing back tears as he smiles lightly and kisses me gently, then hand in hand we open the doors of the RPD...
