Pov: Audrey (Back to the present)

A few weeks later we were already back in school. We had just started 11th grade so we were officially juniors!

I woke up.

I was starting junior high that day, another first day of high school just as many others. However, I was quite nervous as this summer a lot of things had happened. I decided, today I had to dress to impress and maybe hopefully Brian and David who hadn't said a word to me since the day in the cinema would start talking to me again.

I headed for my wardrobe and picked a black denim miniskirt and my favorite v neck white body. (You're probably thinking about our school's dresscode, but even though there's one, our teachers don't really seem to care about the clothes we wear). After I got into my clothes and put on my low ugg boots I looked at the mirror. I was pretty. My curly brown hair fell down my shoulders in delicate golden spirals. I smiled but the smile quickly faded. I sighed. Where had I gone wrong? Why did Brian seem uncomfortable after we kissed? Why was David trying to avoid me?

But I had to look at the bright side: I had started to hang out more with Rafaello. He was nice, so that was an upside. Charlie and Lee were also really nice, though I didn't like Chris. He was a bit sarcastic and he was convinced I was only looking to hook up with Rafa.

Idiot.

Since my mom always went to work early in the morning, at 6, and drove there I had to take the bus to school, since she used the car. I didn't really care about it as I lived just a 10 minute drive from school.

David, Brian and me, as I already mentioned, were not exactly on speaking terms, but I knew I wasn't going to be alone as I was popular. People just threw themselves at me. And Clara, who had just arrived from Italy yesterday, would hang out with me. Back in primary school, when I still hadn't become popular I recall we used to be really close friends, but over time I have started to dislike her because she always follows me like a lap dog everywhere I go and I have made friends who are better by far. Though, it's true she literally worships the ground I walk on and I'm her biggest idol, so I keep her by my side as a replacement. That part doesn't surprise me, what's not to like, I'm a walking goddess. Who doesn't like being adored and extremely popular?

Just as I expected, Clara was waiting for me at the usual spot, wearing an exact replica of my last Instagram post: grey plaid pants and a white oversized sweater combined with white sneakers.

Though I liked her adoration, I had to admit she was lame. She didn't have a bit of personality. So I put on a fake smile and waved at her.

"Hi Audrey! Do you like my outfit? It's just as yours on Insta?" an enthusiastic Clara asked me and got on walking.

"Yeah. You're rocking it girl, though it looks better on me" I replied

She looked a bit disappointed but added "I have to tell you all about Italy. I literally had like a good time. It was like super"

I sighed. Thinking I had something she stopped walking and turned around at me, because I was a bit slower than her.

"Yeah, sure maybe you can tell me about it later at lunch" I replied "By the way, what have we got now? I hope it's Spanish, Irene just sends us some exercises and we can spend the whole hour talking."

Irene, was our spanish teacher who unlike others made us call her by her first name not her surname, just as in her country was done, which was Spain. At first, we were shocked by this and some struggled to avoid calling her Miss Martínez, but in just a few days everyone called her Irene.

"Well, you're in luck, we've got Spanish" she answered.

Once we got all our stuff from our lockers we headed towards our classroom and took the seats at the back of the class. You see, these are the best because you can talk all the hour and the teacher just ignores you, that's why they're reserved for the cool crowd like me. Nerds and invisible people just sit at the front to pay attention to the teacher and because they don't want to pick up a fight with the populars, among them Jeremy and Nick, who were the school's badasses.

Five minutes later the class was full and the teacher arrived. After welcoming us after the long summer break she started to explain us this trimestre's evaluation criteria and what we were going to learn.

"This year's gonna be a bit different regarding the exams. Up until now.."

A group of people emerged from the door, Brian and David were among them. They still hadn't noticed me (thank god).

"Good morning Irene. We're so sorry for being late, we were talking to the principal"

Pff, what a lame excuse. Seriously, I thought they were better than that. However, she didn't seem to mind and told them to get in so she could get on with the lesson.

From that moment, I was unable to pay attention. Despite trying really hard to avoid staring at David and Brian, by paying attention to Clara who kept on nagging about how great her trip was and how this year she was determined to get Jeremy to fall for her, which was impossible, I just couldn't keep my eyes away from them. I swear if they turned around and saw me staring at them with such focus they would think I was some kind of stalker, desperate to talk to them. Obviously I didn't want to give them the satisfaction of that, but I was afraid I had already lost.

Once the lesson finished, I rushed out of the classroom to avoid David and Brian. I made it out just in time.

After Spanish I had Chemistry and all my other subjects.

At lunch time I sat with Clara and some other girls who were obsessed with me. However, as I already mentioned, I didn't care: I just loved it when people followed me around all day. I liked feeling popular. Our entire conversation revolved around fashion and Clara's sudden crush with Jeremy. I obviously didn't approve, he was a hot popular guy, though he had a brain the size of a mosquito's, but ignoring that fact he had good looks which was the point. Whereas Clara was a bit of a minion who was far from being pretty and her lack of personality didn't help. Anyways, I din't think she would be able to gather her courage and ask him on a date, not in a million years.

"Audrey?" I heard someone say. It was another girl from our grade whose name I really don't remember. Was it Coraline? Cristina? Whatever.

"Yes?" I put on my nicest voice.

"Clara was wondering if there was any possibility Jeremy would ask her out?"

Seriously? We're back again with this?

"Nuh-uh. Not in a million years. I don't think so. And it's not like she's brave enough to go up to him and ask him on a date" I dared her, realizing that if she was to ask him she would be rejected and she would with this Jeremy nonsense.

Clara looked at me dumbfounded. She didn't expect me to say that.

What came now was a real plot twist. She stood up and headed towards his table. Was she really going to as him out? She was greeted by all the boys and they started talking to her, everyone except Jeremy. He sat there still expressionless, until she said something that made them all laugh and turn to Jeremy. The story went on for a few minutes and then Clara made her way back to our table not showing a single hint of how it had gone.

She sat down.

"He said yes". Then she started laughing.

Someone asked her to tell us all about it, but I sighed and turned to where a group of Seniors were sitting. In the middle there was a short girl with wavy hair, pointing out at two boys who were going their way.

It took me a while to recognize them, but when I did I realised it was Brian and David I went pale.

They hugged. That girl couldn't just take them away from me. I was their only friends who's a girl. They couldn't hang out with others. I had enough. I got out of my seat and stormed out of the canteen, not caring what people thought.
