Age: 21

------

I walked down the street, hands stuffed deep in my pockets as I watched everyone. It seemed like everyone was with family - brothers with sisters, husbands with wives... children with mothers. The sight of a blond haired woman walking down the street with a small child beside her tugged at my heart. They looked so similar, I knew they were mother and daughter. The little girl was showing her mom something, and the woman was smiling at her daughter. I turned the corner into an alleyway and walked partway down. Taking my hands out of my pockets, I clambered up the ladder to the roof of the building.

This particular building was placed overlooking the city, and the view at sunset was always beautiful. As I sat down, I was hit with the memory of mom bringing me up here.

------

October 2021, 3 years into the blip.

"Mom, where are we going?" I asked.

She turned to me with a small smile.

"Trust me, just follow me."

She took me down an almost empty street. The shops on either side were either closed, abandoned, or barely used. Without any warning, mom turned right into an alleyway. She showed me a ladder, then climbed up it without any words. I followed her and found myself on the roof of a building.

"Woah..." I breathed, looking out over the city.

The sun was dipping below the horizon, lighting up all the buildings. To the left I could see the lake the Avengers facility overlooked, along with the fields and trees, and of course, the facility itself.

"I sometimes come up here to just watch the world go by," mom told me, sitting on the edge of the roof.

She gestured for me to sit beside her. I obliged and sat beside her, my legs hanging over the side of the building.

"Mama, you'll always stay with me, right?" I asked after a few moments of silence.

She looked at me, her emerald eyes wide.

"Of course sweetie," she replied. "What made you ask me that?"

"Just-" I hesitated. "I'm 17. I'm gonna grow up and I don't know if I can be alright. I don't know if I can be alright in a world like this."

My mother took my hand gently.

"Hey, you'll be okay," she assured me. "I'll never leave you."

I looked deep into mom's pure eyes.

"We're only getting older детка," she whispered, kissing my forehead gently.

------

I found tears spilling out of my eyes, remembering this as I sat in the same spot as I had so many times before. I looked to my left. Sat up here, alone, I suddenly felt lonely.

"мама, it's been 2 years," I started, voice breaking. "Peter moved away. Clint retired. Bruce has left. Tony died. Pepper and Morgan are living their own lives. Thor went back into space. Wanda left after the battle. And dad... well he went to take the stones back and never returned."

I took the locket from around my neck and opened it. A small picture of me, mom and dad was inside it. I remembered the day we took that photo. I was 13 and we'd gone on a trip to the beach with the rest of the Avengers. I'd buried our things in the sand, thinking it would be a funny joke until I realised the car keys were in the bags. Me and Peter had quickly dug them up and got them out of the sand before anybody realised. There were questions as to why there was sand inside the bags, but we managed to avoid answering the truth.

"I miss you mama," I whispered, wiping my tears. "You said you'd never leave me."

I looked at the remains of the destroyed Avengers facility. There were cranes and diggers on the site.

"I'm living with Yelena now. She misses you too," I spoke, my voice still shaking. "I've tried everything to bring you back. Before Bruce left, he even let me try to bring you back from the past. It didn't work."

In those moments, I felt more alone than I'd ever felt in my life. Sighing, I looked back down at the locket.

"We're only getting older мама..."
